之儀は同断之内三里山遠に御座候に付降積候所五六
寸程に而御座候右之通之儀百年余も个様は大
変無御座候田畑無差別 退転（タイテン）同然之趣十方に暮
罷在候立木竹藪は不及申野山青キ物一向無御座候
当然馬飼料に差支甚難義至極之体に罷成候

降り積もり、八日の夕方になってようやく雷と電光が鳴り止みました。中里村については、同様の状況の中、三里ほど山から遠い場所にございますので、降り積もった量は五、六寸ほどでございます。このような状況は百年余りの間、これほどの大変事はございませんでした。田畑の区別もなく、まるで廃村同然の有様で、途方に暮れております。立木や竹藪はもちろんのこと、野山の青いものは一切ございません。当然、馬の飼料にも差し支えが生じ、非常に難儀の極みとなっております。その上、田畑の灰砂利を片付けたとしても、とても今年中には間に合わないように存じます。甚だ嘆かわしく存じます。八日の昼までは家から出ることもままならず、お願い申し上げることもできず、どうにもならず悲しい思いで、各自が家の中に集まって経文を読み、念仏を唱えておりました。何卒、早々にご検分をなされ、かろうじて命をつなぐ百姓一同が農業を続けられますよう、重ねてお願い申し上げます。以上。

...the mud, sand, and gravel continued to accumulate, and it was not until the evening of the 8th that the thunder and lightning finally ceased. As for Nakazato Village, which is situated about three ri farther from the mountain than the other villages in the same circumstances, the accumulation there was approximately five to six sun (about six inches). Such a great calamity has not occurred in over a hundred years. Without distinction between fields and paddies, the villages are in a state akin to complete ruin, and we are utterly at a loss. Needless to say, there is not a single green thing remaining on trees, bamboo groves, or in the fields and mountains. Naturally, fodder for horses is also severely lacking, placing us in a state of extreme hardship. Moreover, even if we were to clear away the ash, sand, and gravel from the fields, we do not believe it can be done in time for this year's harvest. We find this utterly lamentable. Until midday on the 8th, we could not even leave our homes, and were unable to submit our petition; with nowhere to turn in our grief, the people of each household gathered together to read sutras and recite nenbutsu prayers. We humbly and repeatedly beseech you to please conduct an inspection at the earliest opportunity, so that we, the peasants who are barely clinging to life, may continue our farming.
