**[Right folio]** The situation was extremely serious. The Yokota Estate in Izumo Province, within the domain, was the territory of the Sentō (Retired Emperor's palace), and no one should have laid hands upon it. However, in recent years it had been unlawfully seized. Despite several official documents (mikyōsho) being issued and the Retired Emperor's intentions being broadly conveyed with orders to return the estate, these commands were not heeded at all. When word reached them that this conduct was in defiance of the imperial will, the retainers convened in deliberation and remonstrated, saying: "Your domain already encompasses four provinces. For you to defy authority over a single estate such as this is utterly inexcusable." After various admonishments, he replied: "Very well, I shall return it. Please send down an official deputy." Thereupon, Saitō Saemon-no-jō of the Hino Middle Counselor's household was sent down as the Sentō's deputy and took possession of the estate. However, the original recipients of the land, village headmen, and commoners were incited against him, and he was driven out by force without recourse. He fled back to the capital in disarray and reported everything as it had occurred. The Gosho (Shogun) was greatly angered, declaring: "Even if it were the person's own domain, since an official order (gechi) has been issued as a shogunal decree, there should be no grounds for objection." **[Left folio]** "I cannot conceive that there would be any dissent. Moreover, this being Sentō territory, despite repeated efforts — at times stern, at times lenient — and strict official proceedings, given that such conduct has occurred, issuing further orders would merely repeat the same result. In the end, there is nothing to be done other than to revoke the position of Military Governor (shugo)." The council of deliberation had already reached this conclusion. 〇Around dusk on the nineteenth day of the twelfth month of the same year (Meitoku 2, 1391), a fast messenger arrived from Tango Province on behalf of Furuyama Jūrō Mitsufuji's deputy, reporting: "The resident deputies overseeing the temple and shrine estates of Yamana Harima-no-kami have been entirely expelled. Since the seventeenth, large forces from both within and outside the province have been gathering, with preparations for battle, and plans to advance upon the capital within the coming days have become apparent." Furthermore, a report arrived from Yūsa Kawachi-no-kami, the deputy military governor of Kawachi Province, stating: "In Izumi Province, Ōshū (Yamana Ujikiyo) is making extraordinary preparations for battle in the very near future and appears ready to depart at any moment. However, should he advance upon the capital through this province (Kawachi) in broad daylight..."
