現代語訳
ここに東の通人国（日本）に、表徳という号を号する者がいて、通人の親玉と呼ばれ、大通の頭たる者がいた。ところが今の世界はもっぱら大通へとなびき、したがうことを感じて、大唐の大王からも通人について使者がやってきて見たいとして使いが来た。
この通人国は、年中出まかせを言って暮らすので、大唐では「ちゃらのけ通人」と思われている。
その時、唐土またはいったいそれはどういう所がうるさいのだろうか。

Here in the Eastern Land of Connoisseurs (Japan), there was someone who went by the title of Hyōtoku, called the boss of connoisseurs and the head of the great connoisseurs. However, seeing that the current world was entirely swayed by and following the great connoisseurs, even the great king of Tang China sent an envoy wanting to see about these connoisseurs.
Since this Land of Connoisseurs spends the whole year speaking nonsense, in Tang China they are thought of as "frivolous connoisseurs" (charamo tsūjin).
At that time, what exactly was bothersome about Tang China or wherever it was?
