> 『和漢三才図会』に曰く、藊豆（インゲンマメ）はすなわち蛾眉豆であり、その花は紫にして藤の花に似て上を向く。その莢（さや）は長さ一〜二寸、実は黒色または栗色で、大きさは黒豆ほどである。これを俗に「藤豆」とも言う。また「白萹豆」とは、すなわち藊豆の中で白くて扁平なもので、花の色は白いと言う。これは藤豆の白花のものである。いずれもインゲン豆には合致しないため、略すこととする。

- The "Kyūkō Honzō" (*Bencao* for famine relief) identifies ■■ as *Kayatsurigusa*. The general form is roughly similar, but the flowers differ greatly. *Kayatsurigusa* was illustrated in the entry above. It is unclear whether this refers to a Chinese or Japanese plant.

> The name *Kayatsurigusa* (蚊屋釣草, "mosquito net fishing grass") comes from children splitting the stem in the middle, pulling it open, and using it to pretend to make a mosquito net, as a form of play. I venture to say that this plant might be called the "male" of *Kobushi* (香附子, *Cyperus rotundus*). The two are quite similar in appearance.

> "*Hakuhen-tō*" (白萹豆) refers to the white-flowered variety of *Gamei-tō* (蛾眉豆); it is not the same as *Ingen sasage*. To say so is an error. *Gamei-tō* (蛾眉藤) is in fact *Fujimame* (フジマメ, *Lablab purpureus*), a separate species. **[Grains] [Medicinal plants]**

> According to the "Wakan Sansai Zue," *Hentō* (藊豆, *Lablab purpureus*) is the same as *Gamei-tō*. Its flower is purple, resembling wisteria blossoms, and faces upward. The pods are one to two *sun* (approx. 3–6 cm) long; the seeds are black or chestnut-colored, about the size of black soybeans. This is also commonly called *Fujimame* (藤豆, "wisteria bean"). Additionally, *Hakuhen-tō* (白萹豆) refers to the white, flat-seeded variety of *Hentō*, with white flowers. This is the white-flowered *Fujimame*. Neither of these corresponds to the *Ingen* bean (*Phaseolus vulgaris*), and so I omit further discussion.
