私は今の人々が編纂・記録した地理書について、前書きや後書きを書いたり、序文や引用を作成したりしたものが、おそらく十数冊ある。これらは皆、人々の求めによるものである。思うに、かつて私が好んで学んだ学問を用いて、その程度のことは、自ら招いた仕事であった。近頃は老いて疲れ、足が心に従わず、眼も衰えた。風光明媚な自然への憧れを絶ち、筆と硯の仕事も止めた。朝夕は念仏を唱え経を読んで、過去の罪を懺悔している。

I have written prefaces and postscripts, and composed introductions and citations for geographical works compiled and recorded by contemporary scholars—numbering perhaps ten or more volumes. All of these were done at the request of others. I believe that using the learning I once favored to pursue, such modest work was something I brought upon myself. Recently, in my old age and weariness, my legs no longer obey my heart, and my eyesight has also declined. I have given up my longing for scenic landscapes and ceased my work with brush and inkstone. Morning and evening, I chant the nembutsu and recite sutras to repent for past sins.
