The temple's monks were completely dispersed, and it ultimately became an abandoned temple. Today, only its name is passed down. **Matsudo Ferry Landing (Matsudo-no-tsu)** This is a post station on the Hitachi Highway. The passage in the *Sarashina Diary* that reads "we lodged at the ford of Kagami and the ferry landing of Matsusato" likely refers to this very place. (The *Gikeiki* states that on the eleventh day of the ninth month of Jishō 4 [1180], [Yoshitsune's party] arrived at a place called Ichikawa in the estate of Matsudo, on the border of Musashi and Shimōsa provinces. Perhaps it was formerly known by the name "the estate of Matsudo.") **Matsudo Embankment (Matsudo-zutsumi)** Same location. This refers to the embankment along the New Tone River (Shin-Tonegawa). The *Kōnodai Senki* records that in the tenth month of Tenbun 6 [1537], when Hōjō Ujitsuna was attacking the Oyumi御所 (residence of Lord Yoshiaki), on the night of the fourth day of that month, Ujitsuna crossed the Asakusa River under cover of midnight, passed through the post town of Ōtsu deep in the night, and held a war council at the Matsudo Embankment. (It is unclear where exactly the post town of Ōtsu was located. Upon reflection, there is a village called Aoto in Kasai. The local people pronounce "Aoto" as "Afuto." Furthermore, since "tsu" and "to" are interchangeable sounds, perhaps it refers to Aoto. The shrine record of Imado Hachiman Shrine states that "Imado was formerly called Imatsu," which would be another example of the same phenomenon.) **Sagami-dai (Sagami Plateau)** This refers to the plateau east of the Matsudo post station. Its extent is approximately five hundred paces north to south and over four hundred paces east to west. In the *Kōnodai Senki*, under the entry for the Battle of Kōnodai in the tenth month of Tenbun 6, it is recorded: "After crossing the Matsudo River, some fifty horsemen, including Shiitsu, Murakami, Horie, and Kashima from within the lord's encampment, rode up to Sagami-dai to assess the enemy's numbers." **Tomb of the Young Lord of Oyumi (Oyumi Onsōshi no Haka)** In the *Kōnodai Senki*, under the entry on the fall of Yoshiaki, it is written that a wet nurse called Rensei came secretly to this Sagami-dai, concealing herself from public view, wishing to see the remains of the young lord, and visited his grave site. However, the exact location of that grave site is no longer clearly known today. **Gyōtoku Boat Landing (Gyōtoku Funaba)** This is the riverside landing at Gyōtoku 4-chōme. Local people call it the "New Landing" (Shin-gashi). There are lodging houses and it is a lively place. The distance by water from the landing at Koami-chō 3-chōme in Edo to this location is three ri and eight chō. This area serves as the main highway route to the provinces of Bōsō (Awa and Kazusa) and Hitachi, among others. **Shrine of Benzaiten** Located in Minato Village, four or five chō downstream from the same place. It is said that in former times it stood beneath the pine forest of the tide-break embankment. (The old site is called Benten-yama, where a small stone shrine remains.) It has since been relocated to Enmyō-in temple. During the Shōtoku era, the monk Junyo Yuinen of Baisō-in Temple in Aoyama, Edo, received a divine revelation from this deity and erected a shrine building in Kyōhō 3 [1718], the year of the Dog. The deity enshrined is the same as that of Itsukushima in Aki Province—Ichikishima-hime no Kami. Whereas the Asu(w)a deity of Watatsumi Village is a male deity, this shrine's deity is...
