いつたい
きさくに
して
やぼ
ならず
つふに
ちかしさけはおはらで二ツ
三ツといふものはかんかに
みくだしちよつとの所が
いつきんぐらいはいかいなとも
すこしやりほんかむしやうに
すきにてかたいものはいき
かねれども上るりほんやら
よみかけてとろ〳〵と
ねむるとそのまゝ
あふいびきはとつくり
のわざなり

近頃島めぐり
清長画
ここに小林の三郎平という者がいる。
いつもきさくで野暮ではない。
普段近所で酒は大原で二つ三つというものは簡単に
見下し、ちょっとした所が
一斤ぐらいはいかがなものかと
少し遣り本格的に
好きで固いものは生き
かねるけれども浄瑠璃本やら
読みかけてとろとろと
眠ると、そのまま
大いびきは徳利の
技である。

Recent Island Tours

Here there is a man called Saburōhei of Kobayashi.
He is always easygoing and not uncouth.
Usually in the neighborhood, for sake at Ōhara, he easily looks down on those who have just "two or three" [cups],
thinking that about one kin [bottle] is reasonable.
He likes to drink somewhat seriously,
and though he cannot survive on hard things alone,
when he starts reading jōruri books and such
and dozes off drowsily,
his loud snoring that continues
is truly the work of a sake bottle.
