そもそも競馬会の件については、人皇七十三代堀川院の御治世に勅願をお立てになって、天下泰平・五穀豊穣の御祈祷として、寛治七年（癸酉年）に賀茂で競馬を執行されたのが始まりである《この時は五番と云々》。これにより、往古内裏の武徳殿において執り行われていた面影を移し、年々十番の競馬を奉らせている。

Now, regarding the matter of horse racing ceremonies, during the reign of the 73rd Human Emperor, Emperor Horikawa, an imperial vow was made, and horse racing was first conducted at Kamo in Kanji 7 (1093 CE, year of Mizunoto-Tori) as prayers for peace throughout the realm and abundant harvests《At this time, there were five races》. Following this tradition, the ceremony has continued annually with ten horse races, carrying on the legacy of the ancient ceremonies that were once held at the Butokuden Hall within the Imperial Palace.
