自序
震旦には神農草を撰ひ我朝には
五十猛神果樹を植はしめ給ふより
このかた草木弥増に繫き事人の
愛しやしのふによれり予八十一
今勢におよふまて世の好悪する
梗を覧しに各同しからす詩作る
人はその情を綴り歌読ものは其
さまを詠し名所旧蹟風土の異る
あれとも皆その眺に耽架村走

自序
中国では神農が薬草を選び、我が国では
五十猛神が果樹をお植えになられてから
今日まで、草木がますます繁茂することは人の
愛情と慈しみによるものである。私は八十一歳の
今の世に至るまで、世の人々が好み嫌う
物事を見てきたが、それぞれ同じではない。詩を作る
人はその情を綴り、歌を詠む者はその
様を詠じ、名所旧跡や風土が異なって
いても、皆その眺めに耽溺し、村里を走り

Preface
In China, Shennong selected medicinal herbs, and in our country,
since the deity Isotakeru planted fruit trees,
the flourishing of plants and trees has been due to human
love and nurturing. I, now at the age of eighty-one,
have observed throughout my life the things that people
favor and dislike, and each is different. Those who compose
poetry express their emotions, those who recite songs
sing of their forms, and though famous places, historic sites, and regional climates
may differ, all become absorbed in such scenery, traveling through villages
