(Continued from previous page) …[Lord Suō stated that] the relevant officials should be summoned and valuations attached [to the sacred treasures], and that [the shrine representatives] should return after this had been done. Thereupon, everyone withdrew.
Item: Today, in preparation for moving the sacred treasures (shinpō) of the Junior Shrine (gon-sha), offerings were first presented and dedicated to both the Main Shrine (shō-sha) and the Junior Shrine.
Now that the temporary shelter (kariya) for the sacred treasures was complete, curtains (maku) were hung on both sides [to form a corridor] from the edge of the sacred floor (o-toko) of the Junior Shrine to the temporary treasure shelter, and rough rush matting (ara-mushiro) was laid along the pathway. Sakaki branches were bound to the four corners of the temporary shelter. When the shrine priests (shashi) and clan members (ujibito) had duly assembled, Ke'an summoned the clan members who were dressed in plain silk robes (hōi), and instructed them to remove the furnishings from the raised platform (ōyuka) of the Junior Shrine. The clan members assembled, removed items such as the eight-legged offering tables (hassoku no o-tsukue), and then withdrew. After that, [the officiants] proceeded to the key ceremony (o-kagi).
[In vermilion: "Concerning the ceremony of transferring the sacred treasures of the Junior Shrine to the temporary shrine, and the ground-pulling (jibiki) event."]
Item: On the same day, a divination report (kanmon) was submitted by the Bureau of Onmyō (Onmyōryō) regarding the auspicious hour for pulling and relocating the Junior Shrine. Accordingly, at the Hour of the Sheep (around 2 p.m.), the shrine priests and clan members gathered at the shrine precinct. The temporary shrine to receive the sacred treasures was being hurriedly completed, and it was finally ready around the Hour of the Monkey (around 4 p.m.). At around that time, the following eight individuals took their seats in the open corridor (sukiro): Head Priest Takahisa, Chief Ritualist (shō-negi) Mochiisa, Chief Ritualist of Prayers (shō-hafuri) Shigeyoshi (interlinear note: arrived late), Junior Ritualist (gon-negi) Mitsuhisa, Deputy Junior Ritualist (gon-hafuri-dai) Shigemura, Miyauchi Shigetsugu (interlinear note: currently without office or position), Kibune Shrine Ritualist (negi) Tokuhisa, and Shrine Administrator Deputy (shamu-dai) Awaji-no-kami—a total of eight persons (interlinear note: each in court dress [ikan]). The Former Chief Ritualist turned monk Ke'an wore plain white silk robes (sokken) and did not take a seat [in the corridor]. Among the clan members (ujibito), Izumo-no-kami Ujimasu headed the group, followed by Bungo-no-kami, Uemon-no-suke, Zusho-no-suke, Shimōsa-no-kami, Mizu-no-shō, and others—some twelve or thirteen persons in total from the shrine community.
[Vermilion annotation in upper portion of left folio:]
(Interlinear note: According to the same-day diary of Suefuku: The Chief Ritualist, Head Priest, and Chief Ritualist of Prayers wore court dress [ikan]; the remaining shrine priests attended in plain silk robes [hōi], and afterward all changed into court dress. Ke'an wore saifuku [ritual robes], it is said.)
(Interlinear note: [A query regarding] the difference between saifuku [ritual robes] and sokken [plain white silk]. Upon inquiry, it was explained: In ancient times, a Head Priest who had taken Buddhist vows did so by special imperial decree. The present matter concerns Ke'an, who has taken vows, performing [ceremonies] within the inner sanctuary and below.)
