Among the ujibito (shrine parishioners), those from the harai-kō group, along with several tens of ujibito of the shōjin-gashira and musoku ranks, were in attendance. In total, [number not recorded] persons including shrine officials (shashi) and ujibito. The chief officer (chōkan) was performed by Yukihisa. The shashi and ujibito each wore their ceremonial robes of hoi (plain silk court dress) and kazaori-eboshi (folded court caps). The kanzu (certificate scrolls) [recorded by the incumbent secretary, Ujiyuki], the offering rice [wrapped as before, prepared by the harai-kō members], and the noshi (formal gifts) were delivered by the zassho (administrative official) Moku-no-jō, with Nagato-no-kami serving as his deputy (sashisoi). As it was suddenly deemed too difficult to complete the full thousand-seat ceremony (senza), three sections of the Nakatomi Purification (Nakatomi no harae) were recited: the introductory section (jobun), the fifth section, and the concluding section.
1. The 1st day of the 5th month. Clear skies, hour of the Rooster (early morning). Early this morning, Lord Gomi came up to inspect [the site]. [Unclear passage.]
Lord Toyama Gohei and Lord Ōita Rokubei accompanied him, and Lord Gomi and two or three others observed the ashiyori (selection/inspection of lumber or workers). The insoō (community association) presented them with ori (folded gifts) and miki (sacred sake) and the like. These two gentlemen are the yokome no go-rō (inspectors, or attendants — transcribed as in the original) of the Shogun. As the ashiyori took place today as usual, the Yamato carpenters and those below them suspended their work.
2. The 2nd day of the same month. Clear skies. A meeting of the sashisoi (deputies) was held at the Eidō (portrait hall). The matters discussed were: whether the eight shrines (hachi-sha) should be entrusted to the designated carpenters (yaku-daiku), and also various discussions regarding the double roof of the Rōmon (two-storied gate). The carpenters then reported that work on the eight shrines was largely nearing completion. Details are recorded in the Hinami-ki (daily record).
3. On the same day, the insoō sent a letter to Lord Enami. Details are recorded in the Insoō Hinami-ki.
4. The 3rd day. Clear skies, clouding over by evening. Nothing of note today.
