1. The 4th day. Clear skies, then clouding over. The shrine officials (shashi) and ujibito assembled at the shrine precinct and held consultations on all matters. Among the shashi were four persons: Ikuhisa, Yukihisa, Tokuhisa, and Mitsuhisa. Among the ujibito were: Atsunao, Yasukuni, Ujiaki, and Ujifuyu. Among the duty attendants (tōban-shū): Takitoshi, Saemon-no-jō, and Buzen. Additionally arriving later were Ujimori and Ujiyuki. All of the above assembled and held consultations. 2. The 5th day. Rain in the morning, then clearing, with alternating cloud and sun occurring dozens of times throughout the day. As in previous years, the horse racing (kurabema) was held. Accordingly, the chief carpenters (sō-daiku) suspended their work for the day. Furthermore, the construction of the temporary shelters (kariya) at the racetrack was also assigned to the local carpenters, on the grounds that it would serve as a continuation of the shrine construction work. Today, a new temporary palace (kari-goten) was built. The sudare (bamboo blinds), tatami mats, and all other furnishings were arranged as before. The chief carpenter Saemon issued the construction orders (sashizu). 3. The 6th day. Clear in the morning, rain by evening. 4. The 7th day. Clear skies. A meeting was held at the Eidō (portrait hall). Discussions were held with the shrine officials regarding sending a message to the Yamato carpenters to the effect that the local carpenters should complete the work on the eight shrines (hachi-sha). Messengers appointed for this were Mimasaka-no-kami, Shume-no-suke, and Saemon-no-suke. Following this, there was a discussion about opening the御鎖子 (o-kusariko, the sacred lock/chain fittings) and wooden fittings at the morning rites of the 5th day and conducting prayers (gokitō). The shrine officials also expressed their agreement with this. It was accordingly decided that the Senza-harae (Thousand-Seat Purification Ceremony) would fittingly be held on the 10th day. 5. The 8th day. Clear skies. Regarding the construction of the two-storied gate (rōmon) of this shrine, a private request was received through the Hōin [name unclear] of Kifune, conveying the wish of Hōrinji Temple in Saga to make a formal request [to participate in or contribute to the construction]. This was presented to the shrine community (shatō-shūchū), and the response was that it would certainly be appropriate to send [something or someone]. Therefore, today——[text continues on next page]
