とうなす（唐茄子）《江戸》 番瓜《群芳譜》
苗や葉の形状は前条と同じ。実の形は壺のようで、下部が広く上部が狭い。
また丸くて扁平なものもあり、菊座という。縦に凹凸のある稜線がある。
皮の色は初めは緑色で、熟すると黄色になる。果肉は厚くて味は甘く濃厚で美味しい。
この類にあこだうり（阿古陀瓜）というものがある。形状は同じだが小さい。

The seedlings and leaves have the same form as the previous entry. The fruit is shaped like a pot, broad at the bottom and narrow at the top.
There are also round and flattened varieties called kikuza (chrysanthemum seat). It has ridges running vertically with indentations and protrusions.
The skin color is initially green, turning yellow when ripe. The flesh is thick with a sweet, rich, and delicious taste.
In this category there is also akodauri (bullet gourd). It has the same shape but is smaller.
