一 四月十二日 登城して暇の御礼を申し上げ、例の通り御馬を拝領し、退出の際に御礼として老中・御側御用人・若年寄中へ御挨拶回りをした
一 同日、御用番秋元但馬守（喬朝）殿から呼び出しがあり、御留守居堀十兵衛（久律）が出向いたところ、左の通り書付を渡された。大目付安藤筑後守（信峰）殿からも書付一通が渡された
覚書
参勤交代の際の従者の人数が多くなりすぎないよう、
かねてより仰せ出されているが、ますます人数を多く
しないよう致すべきである。大勢で集まると宿の人馬
ともに困窮することになるので、連れて行かずには
済まない者については日を替えて後先に派遣し、道中
混雑しないよう心得るべきである。以上

街道筋の人馬の御定めの件について、かねてより皆承知の
通り、東海道は五十疋五十人、中山道は二十五人二十五疋の
御定めである。しかしながら今まではの近郷から寄せ人馬を

Memorandum
The number of retainers during sankin-kōtai (alternate attendance)

be sent on different days, some before and some after, so as

Memorandum
Regarding the regulations for people and horses on the highways,
as everyone has long understood, the Tōkaidō route is regulated
at fifty horses and fifty people, while the Nakasendō route is
regulated at twenty-five people and twenty-five horses. However,
until now, additional people and horses have been gathered from
nearby regions and prepared for when the daimyo pass through
