(Continued from previous day) At the shrine chief's residence, the cutting and sewing of divine garments (神服) took place. **5th Day**: At the Hour of the Snake (around 10 a.m.), regarding the ceremony for raising the ridgepole (棟上げ) of the Main Shrine. First, on the roof completed the previous day, scaffolding was assembled using old planks tied with rope and bamboo poles laid across to form a shelf, and one would ascend to the eaves via the御葵橋 (honorable hollyhock bridge). The offerings prepared for today were as follows: three containers of two-shō barrels, six kan in coin, six sea bream (two per tray, distributed across the three locations: East, West, and Center), dried squid (likewise three trays, same arrangement), six rice cakes (made from five gō of rice, shaped so as not to become too elongated), six shitogi (uncooked rice cakes) (same arrangement, shaped like manju with a flat bottom)—each placed on trays and set at the three locations: East, West, and Center. Three branches of five-colored paper offerings (goshiki-nusa) were erected (East, West, Center), along with jun (純, 30 monme each), and additionally 30 monme of cotton divided into three portions were attached as accompaniments. At the base of the pillars, one container of barrel sake, two sea bream, and one string of dried squid were placed on a stand. When the appointed time arrived, shrine officials (社司) and ujibito (氏人, shrine-affiliated persons) came to serve; the shrine chief (神主) wore a hunting robe (狩衣), and six shrine attendants (神人) preceded with staffs. The bettō (別当, administrative head), mokudai (目代, deputy), and shoshi (所司, managers) also accompanied, as did four or five of the shrine chief's close associates among the ujibito. The remaining shrine officials each made their way to the shrine precinct individually, in no particular formation. Since the completion of construction on the 22nd, the middle gate (中門) had been kept closed. The shrine chief entered from the First Torii, had the roofed gate (楼門) and middle gate opened, and took his seat on the floor boards beneath the ofuda-ya (御札屋, the talisman house), seated with West as the upper position, facing North. At that moment, Senchoku raised an objection, stating that henceforth all unofficial visits and pilgrimages should be stopped from passing through the middle gate by hanging a kichō (几帳, a standing curtain screen)...
