(Continued from the previous page) ...even though (an allowance) was attached (to that role), it was altogether determined that such a thing ought not to be done. Regarding the seated ceremonial robes (chakuza no shōzoku): when these were donated by the Ladies' Imperial Residence (Nyōin Gosho), the head shrine official (shōhauri-dono) took them by lateral seizure (yokodori). As a result, the ujibito (shrine-affiliated persons/clan members) lodged a complaint, whereupon the matter was declared an impropriety (kusegoto), and it was decreed that such actions must not occur in the future. Nevertheless, since these robes had already been prepared as an offering for sacred prayers, one further set was ordered and fashioned to be given to the ujibito side. Through this act of deep benevolence, the difficulty of the "lateral seizure" was thereby escaped. Given this circumstance, the matter is not one to be pushed forward and made public. Nevertheless, that this item was added to the current written petition to the authorities (kōgi) is a fundamental breach of precedent and an error. However it may be, it was determined that this matter should be handled through careful judgment and discretion (ryōken). Next, regarding the road (往来) of Kosei-shō and the tenant farming (shitasaku) of Kawarada — (marginal note: [a dispute between] those of Shimogamo and those of this location) — at the time of planting, it was said that there was no proper notification, and each party's objections were not mutually heard. Since oath documents (seijō) and the like were submitted, both sides were halted and the disturbance settled, with instructions issued that next year the current tenant farmers (tōsaku no mono) shall perform the work. The construction work (fusin) at Kibune (Shrine) was completed, and the magistrates (bugyō-shū) and those below them returned home and departed the capital on the 28th of last month. Having completed even the cleaning, (the shrine) was duly handed over.
