現代語訳
野武士や海賊たちも我も我もと馳せ集まり、その勢力は盗賊三百人にて立て籠もった。すでに八月の中旬、梶原平治景高は先陣を承り、百騎の郎党を引き連れて箱根山へ押し寄せ、賊徒を攻めた。
（盗賊たちは）散々に打ち負け、命からがらに逃げ出した。
「ああ苦しや苦しや」
「梶原の家来どもに身も心も砕かれる」
「逃げる様は情けない奴らだ」
盗賊の頭目である童子は、鎌倉より討手が向かってくると聞いて、配下に下知して防がせた。ここに現れ、かしこに出て、大石を投げ落とした。
平治景高「やれ無情なことをする者どもだ。まるで芝居の小幡の助に仕組まれたようだ」

英語訳
Wild warriors and pirates also rushed to gather, one after another, and their forces consisted of three hundred bandits who barricaded themselves. Already in mid-August, Kajiwara Heiji Kagetaka received command of the vanguard and led one hundred mounted retainers to attack Mount Hakone, besieging the bandits.
The bandits were thoroughly defeated and fled desperately for their lives.
"Oh, how painful, how painful!"
"We are crushed body and soul by Kajiwara's retainers!"
"What a pathetic sight they make in fleeing!"
The bandit leader, Doji, upon hearing that a punitive force was coming from Kamakura, gave orders to his subordinates to defend their position. They appeared here and emerged there, hurling down large stones.
Heiji Kagetaka said, "What cruel deeds these men do! It's as if they were staged like Obata no suke in a theater play!"
