申候ハ委細致承知候此儀者互ニ主々之存知
之事ニ候得者一分ニ而者相極メ返答難申候
兎角在所江申越大炊頭存知をも承候而可
申達之段申聞其以後右之趣在所江申越
候付委曲致承知候元太郎江之縁組之儀ハ何
分ニも勝手次第ニ被致候様ニ民部大輔江和順之
儀者来春参勤之上取扱之趣次第ニ了簡も可
致之旨家来玄蕃越後守家来図書迄申聞
候様ニ申遣則其節図書江拙者存知之通玄蕃能
越申聞候其後越後守方ゟ右縁組為知一通リ
之書状到来最前互ニ家来共談候趣之儀ハ
兎角を不申越候ニ付縁組之儀何分ニも勝手次
第ニ相談候様返答ニ申遣候然処拙者今度参府
ニ三日前図書方ゟ家来玄蕃方迄大炊頭参府
御礼等も十五日迄ニ相済候ハヽ十六日十八日十九日
此三日之中大炊頭手透次第越後守方江罷越
候様ニ左候ハヽ民部大輔儀も申越対面有之様ニ可
致之旨越後守申付候趣ニ而手紙を以て申越候最
現代語訳
「詳細について承知いたしました。この件は互いの主君の了解を得る必要がある事柄ですので、一存では決定して返答することはできません。とにかく領国に申し送り、大炊頭（松平吉邦）の意向も伺ってからお答えいたします」と申し聞かせ、その後右の趣旨を領国に申し送りました。
詳しく承知したところ、元太郎への縁組の件は何分にも都合次第でお取り計らいください。民部大輔との和解の件は来春の参勤の上で、取り扱いの趣旨次第で判断いたします、と家来の玄蕃が越後守の家来図書まで申し聞かせるように申し遣わし、その際図書に私の考えの通りを玄蕃がよく申し聞かせました。
その後越後守方から右の縁組を知らせる一通りの書状が到来しましたが、最初に互いの家来同士が談合した趣旨については言及せず、縁組の件は何分にも都合次第で相談いたします、と返答を申し遣わしました。
ところが私が今度参府する三日前に、図書方から家来玄蕃方まで「大炊頭の参府の御礼等も十五日までに済ませることができれば、十六日、十八日、十九日のこの三日の中で大炊頭の都合次第で越後守方に参上するように。そうすれば民部大輔も申し越して対面するように取り計らいます」と越後守が申し付けた趣旨で手紙をもって申し越してきました。

"I have understood the details. Since this matter requires the knowledge of both our lords, I cannot decide and respond on my own authority. In any case, I will send word to our domain and respond after hearing Lord Ōi-no-kami's (Matsudaira Yoshikuni) intentions," he conveyed, and thereafter sent the aforementioned message to the domain.
Having understood the details thoroughly, regarding the marriage arrangement for Gentarō, please handle it at your convenience in any way. As for reconciliation with the Minister of Civil Affairs (Minbu-dayū), we will make our decision based on how the matter is handled after next spring's sankin (attendance in Edo), and had retainer Genba convey this to Echizen-no-kami's retainer Tosho. On that occasion, Genba thoroughly conveyed my thoughts to Tosho.
Thereafter, a formal letter arrived from Echizen-no-kami's side announcing the marriage arrangement, but it made no mention of the matters our retainers had previously discussed. I sent a reply stating that the marriage arrangement would be discussed at our mutual convenience.
However, three days before my current journey to Edo, a letter came from Tosho's side to retainer Genba's side, saying that "if Lord Ōi-no-kami's formal greetings for his arrival in Edo can be completed by the 15th, then on the 16th, 18th, or 19th - whichever of these three days is convenient for Lord Ōi-no-kami - he should visit Echizen-no-kami. If so, arrangements will be made for Minbu-dayū to also come for a meeting," as instructed by Echizen-no-kami, conveyed by letter.
