前ゟ之趣ニ候得共未民部大輔殿江大炊頭対談
之儀ハ得貴意候段返答も無之事其上未参
府も不致候付手紙之趣致承知候兎角大炊頭致
参府候而申聞其上ニ而可申達之旨返答仕候段
拙者江申聞候付不達儀ニ候間其中之儀ニ可致候旨
渥美図書方迄家来酒井玄蕃方ゟ返答為申
越候其以後越後守私宅江罷越候節申聞候ハ
民部大輔ニ対面仕候様ニ致度候近日家来を以
可申越之由申聞候付其儀ハ被申聞様之趣ニ
仍而返答可申之旨挨拶申候処其以後越後守
家来図書為使者四月十三日指越候口上書
之趣一昨日者御参府之御礼首尾能相済目
出度存候拙者儀も昨日以上使御暇被仰出例之通

存候然者先日も御直談申候通松平民部大輔殿江
御対談之儀御同心可被下候ハヽ来ル十六日十八日
十九日御出可被下候左候ハヽあなたへも可申遣候
右之趣為可得御意以使者申入候由
現代語訳
先日からの件でございますが、まだ民部大輔殿に大炊頭（松平吉邦）が対談することについて、ご了承いただいたという返答もなく、その上まだ参府もしておりませんので、手紙の趣旨は承知いたしました。とにかく大炊頭が参府してから申し聞かせ、その上でお答えいたします、と返答いたしました、と私に申し聞かせてきましたので、まだ決着のついていない件でございますから、そのようにいたします、と渥美図書方まで家来酒井玄蕃方から返答を申し越しました。
その後、越後守の私宅に参った際に申し聞かせましたのは「民部大輔と対面いたしたく思います。近日中に家来を通じて申し越します」と申し聞かせてきましたので、その件はおっしゃるような趣旨で返答いたします、と挨拶申しました。
ところがその後、越後守の家来図書が使者として四月十三日に遣わしてきた口上書の内容は次の通りです。
「一昨日は御参府の御礼が首尾よく済み、めでたく存じます。私も昨日、上使を通じて御暇をいただき、例の通り品々を拝領し、今朝登城して御礼を首尾よく申し上げ、ありがたい次第と存じます。さて、先日も直接お話し申し上げました通り、松平民部大輔殿との御対談の件、ご同意いただけるでしょうか。来る十六日、十八日、十九日にお出ましいただけるでしょうか。そうしていただければ、あちらにも申し遣わします。右の趣旨をご了承いただくため、使者をもって申し入れます」
英語訳
Regarding the matter from the other day, there has still been no reply indicating approval for Lord Ōi-no-kami (Matsudaira Yoshikuni) to have a meeting with Lord Minbu-dayū. Moreover, since he had not yet arrived in Edo, I acknowledged the letter's contents and replied that in any case, after Lord Ōi-no-kami arrives in Edo, I would convey the message and then respond. Since this was conveyed to me and the matter remains unresolved, I will proceed accordingly. This response was sent from retainer Sakai Genba's side to Atsumi Tosho's side.
Later, when I visited Echizen-no-kami's private residence, he conveyed: "I would like to meet with Minbu-dayū. I will send word through a retainer in the near future." I responded that I would reply according to what he had conveyed.
However, thereafter, Echizen-no-kami's retainer Tosho was sent as a messenger on the 13th day of the 4th month with the following oral message:
"The day before yesterday, your formal greetings for arriving in Edo were successfully completed, which I find most auspicious. I too received permission to depart yesterday through the jōshi, received the customary gifts, and this morning went to the castle to successfully offer my thanks - a most grateful situation. Now then, as I discussed directly the other day, regarding the meeting with Lord Matsudaira Minbu-dayū, if you would agree to it, could you come on the upcoming 16th, 18th, or 19th? If so, I will also send word to that side. I am sending this messenger to obtain your agreement on this matter."
