The attendant samurai were accommodated in one of the residences of the Senior Councilors (rōjū) that had been made available during their stay. 1. After the death of Chūnagon (Hideyasu), the matter of succession was entrusted to his eldest son, Mikawa-no-kami Tadanao. However, due to certain circumstances, he was exiled to Bungo Province. At this time, Tadanao's eldest son, the former Echigo-no-kami Mitsunaga, was called Senchidai. Due to Tadanao's circumstances, the former Echigo-no-kami was not granted succession, and Chūnagon's inheritance was entrusted to Iyo-no-kami Tadamasa. Tadamasa was Tadanao's younger brother and Chūnagon's second son. There were kind instructions from above regarding Iyo-no-kami, and Fukui Castle was entrusted to him as it was. It was proclaimed that those outside the family line could use the character "tono" (lord). When receiving the shogunal letter, it was bestowed with the shogunal seal. When Iyo-no-kami came to Edo, an envoy was sent as far as Shinagawa, and upon arrival, he immediately went to the castle for an audience with the shogun. During castle visits, he was granted the privilege of sitting in the lower seat area. 1. In the 8th month of Shōhō 2 (1645), Iyo-no-kami died, and his eldest son, the former Echizen-no-kami Mitsumichi (called Manchidai-maru), inherited the headship at age ten. When visiting the castle, he was summoned directly to the audience chamber and kept close to the shogun's side. At the end of the same year, he was appointed as Jijū (Chamberlain), and on the 21st day of the 12th month of Keian 1 (1648), he came of age at the Black Study (Kurosho-in) and was appointed as Shōshō (Minor Captain) concurrently with Echizen-no-kami.
