(The acting scribe Tadaaki sent regrets on behalf of the assembly hall and Kenta, as well as for shrine priest business and illness. Tomitoshi was absent due to his attendance at the demolition of the *o-kakoi* [sacred enclosure].)
1. As for the deadline for the festival accounts — it was decided that this would be on the 4th day of next month.
2. Regarding the notice of the *nō* performance on the 1st day of next month: a request came from the *bettō* (administrative head) to have a letter drafted and sent to Kawakatsу Gonroku. It was determined that this should be communicated in the customary manner.
3. Both of the *aoi* (hollyhock) envoys submitted their account books.
4. The account book of the shrine officials' accounts for the 5th month was submitted. The acting scribe read it aloud.
5. Regarding yesterday (the 26th), the small meeting (*ko-yoriai*) concerning the return of the sacred pond water and the appearance of the representatives — the matter was also brought to the attention of the intermediary officials at the Imperial Palace. Yasusato gave an account of the above.
6. A petition for construction/renovation work was submitted by Jūzaemon of Ikejiri-chō. The matter was referred to the construction office. (Marginal note: It would be advisable to ask the *chōshin bugyō* [procurement magistrate] to take on this task as well; it was suggested that this be discussed at the next meeting.)
7. Harimano-suke Arinori submitted a request. He reported that a petition for service that had previously received approval had now been granted, and that from the 1st of next month he would be attending the Ichijō household daily. He therefore wished to resign from his current duties, and also requested permission to withdraw from the meeting. As this had been agreed upon earlier, his request was immediately granted.
8. Regarding the demolition of the *o-kakoi* (sacred enclosure) at the birthplace shrine (*o-shōsho*): Gorōtarō reported that two hundred bundles of rotten leaves (*kuchiba*) would be given to the bathhouse (*yuya*) for use as winter fuel. The remaining firewood was to be distributed to the surrounding communities (*mawari-koguchi*). The allowance for sake was to follow the previous precedent. The prices were as follows: hardwood, 50 *kanme*, at 2 *monme* 5 *bu*; pine wood, 50 *kanme*, at 2 *monme*; brushwood, 50 *kanme*, at 2 *monme*; split scraps, 50 *kanme*, at 1 *monme* 5 *bu*. The same rates applied this time as well.
9. A request came from Chikuzen-no-kami: he wished to receive two *hiiragi* (holly) stumps located near the boundary markers (*hōji*). Permission was granted.
10. As for when the thanksgiving ritual for the answered rain prayers (*kiu hōsai*) should be held — this was deferred to the next meeting.
11. Yesterday, on the representatives' return journey, a message had been sent to the village headman (*shōya*) of Koyama saying he should come early the following morning. However, as he had still not arrived today, the attendant Gonbei was dispatched again. The message sent was that since the return of the sacred pond water had been completed, the water supply should be released downstream. The reply conveyed by the officials was that the water had been released into the sacred pond beginning at the Hour of the Seventh Bell (*nanatsu-doki*, approximately 4 a.m.) of this morning.
12. The water overseer from Ōno came to report that the planting in the entire Ōno district had been completed by today. Accordingly, the sake allowance that had been previously announced — one *kanmon* in coin — was distributed today.
13. Before the meeting, Tsunekiyo, Suemichi, Yasusato, Yasuchi, and Fumishige were given an account by Mimikiyo regarding matters that Yasushige had been privately discussing during this period.
14. After the meeting, Yasushige, Shigesue, Yasusato, Yasuchi, and the acting scribe Fumishige entered and tallied the accounts in the shrine officials' ledger for the 5th month.
---
**28th Day. [Day of the Ox / *Ushi*]. Clear.**
1. Today was quiet throughout the shrine community (*shachū go-seihitsu*). The firewood from the demolition of the *o-kakoi* was distributed. The timber portion was handled by Naoho and Mimikiyo, and distributed from the *hanagaeri* shrine priests down to Suruga-no-suke — thirteen shares in all. The brushwood portion was distributed from Shigesue upward, to Mawari-kenrei — six shares in all.

**29th Day. [Day of the Tiger / *Tora*]. Clear; rainy from midday.**
1. This morning, after the meal, senior and junior members (*rōnyaku*) gathered. Those in attendance: [list not yet given in the transcription].
The account book of the shrine officials for the current month was read aloud. Today, as is customary, a major accounting meeting (*dai-kanjō*) was to be held at the assembly hall. Those attending on behalf of the presiding officials were asked to serve as representatives (*kanerei*). The representative for the senior and junior members was Sakyo-no-shō Narifumi.
2. Shortly after the Hour of the Snake (*mi no koku*, approximately 10 a.m.), a summons (*meshijō*) arrived from the presiding official Lord Hino-Ben, addressed to the shrine priests. It stated that there was a matter to be discussed, and that the representatives should come to his private residence (*o-satotei*) immediately. Accordingly, Hirohisa and Yasusato departed at once.
3. Around the half-hour of the Hour of the Snake (approximately 11 a.m.), the major accounting meeting (*dai-kanjō*) was held at the assembly hall. Present were shrine priests Masahisa, Yasushige, Shigesue, Yasuchi, Gakunori [continued below]...
