1. On the 28th, Chikuzen-no-kami called upon [the shrine]. He expressed his gratitude for permission granted earlier to take possession of a stump of *hiiragi* (holly olive). 2. On the same day, firewood from the dismantling of the enclosure around the *oidokoro* (the place of divine birth / sacred precinct) was distributed — in units of 50 *kanme*, with portions allotted as 13 shares of *makigi* (timber/logs) and 6 shares of *shiba* (brushwood) — according to the established order of distribution. The sake allowance was 2 *monme* per person. 3. On the 29th, a summons (*meshijō*) from Lord Hino-Ben arrived for the head priests (*kannushi*) and representatives (*sōdai*). Hirohisa and Yasusato immediately presented themselves. Mizutani Moku appeared and conveyed that Lord Hino-Ben had inquired: regarding the inquiry document of the 22nd and the petition of the 24th, there had been various complications and miscellaneous matters — why was it so difficult to understand? The representatives gave a general reply, and it was said that it was duly received and acknowledged. There were also other matters conveyed. Yasusato delivered a statement, which was also recorded on the 29th. 4. On the same day, Aki-no-kami called upon [the shrine]. He stated that [the following] had been sent from Osaka: one votive painting (*ema*) with an offering of 200 *hiki* in gold (*ohatsuo kin*). The votary had requested that it be dedicated within the current month. It was brought first to the shrine community. Although the votary had asked that the hanging nails and metal fittings be prepared on his side, as he was unfamiliar with the matter, he requested that the shrine community handle the arrangements instead, specifying that brass (*shinchū*) nails be used. The votive painting measures approximately 5 *shaku* 8 *sun* wide and 4 *shaku* 5 *sun* tall. It is an extremely colorful (*gokusaishiki*) depiction of a horse being led (*hikuma*) on a ground of solid gold. The artist is recorded as Tanshun-sai Morinao, and there is also a vermilion seal. On the reverse, it is inscribed: "An auspicious day in the 5th month of Hōreki 5th year (1755), the year of *kinoto-i* (乙亥) — Yamanaka Naokou, resident of Osaka in Settsu Province." The frame is lacquered in black with metal fittings, the gold finish being *kin-keshi* (matte/burnished gold). After deliberation: as this votive painting is too large to be hung in a small gallery (*ko-tsubone*), it was decided that for now it be sent for storage at the [shrine's] ■ house; that upon the occasion of the prayers on the 11th, the monthly-duty officials (*tsuki-ban*) would inspect it and deliberate; and that it would ultimately be hung on the western side of the assembly corridor (*kai-rō*). Furthermore, all the votive paintings currently in the small gallery were to be removed and transferred to the covered corridor (*kairō*). 5. Yesterday, the 1st of the month, a messenger who brought sacred *ayu* (sweetfish) offerings for the *Yatone* ritual reported that the salted *ayu* would run out after today's allotted share, with no more remaining. After deliberation: as the river water recedes, one should go to inspect the situation and offer [the fish] as they become available. 6. On the same day, around the Hour of the Horse (noon), Kawabugyo (River Magistrate) Daizen-gonno-tayū Suemoto arrived and reported: the riverbank area (*kawara*) had flooded, and the drainage channel at *Dematsu* became extremely dangerous. He had brought along workers from the river management team, who applied barriers and diverted the flow to contain the flood. As the waters had since gradually receded, everyone had now withdrawn. This was his report. 7. Around the Hour of the Monkey (approximately 4 p.m.), Suemoto again reported: a pine tree had floated down from below *Dematsu* and come to rest on the opposite bank of the river. He inquired whether it should be retrieved that evening. After consultation among the shrine officials (*shoku-chū*), instructions were given to retrieve it that evening. Later that night, Suemoto called again and reported: the pine tree from earlier had been retrieved after cutting it free at the roots, and had been stored within the precincts of Sei-jinji (Sacred God Temple). Two root stumps from trees previously cut had also floated down, making three stumps in total now resting at the *Tōjin Kawara* (the "Chinese Riverbank"). He inquired whether these should also be retrieved the following day, noting that both retrieval and transport would incur costs. After deliberation: as the root stumps would be of no practical use even if retrieved, and any distribution among staff would likely not cover the transportation costs, it was decided that the river management team be granted possession of the stumps. 8. As for the rice (*ryō-mai*) to be offered as payment for requesting seven days of rain-prayer (*kiū no go-kitō*) from the *shōjin tōnin-chū* (those leading the ritual purification): how much should be offered? After deliberation: it should be offered in accordance with established precedent. It was recalled that one *to* (about 18 liters) had been sent on previous occasions, but the accounts (*kanjō-chō*) and related records were to be examined further. 9. As for the thanksgiving prayers (*hōsai no go-kitō*) following the rain prayers: on what day should they be conducted? It was decided they would take place on the coming 9th. 10. Morinori expressed a wish to present one scroll of a thunder-amulet (*kaminari-yoke o-mamori*) and two scrolls of *Marishi-ten* (a deity of protection). These were granted and presented with permission. 11. Today, Moku-gonno-kami Yasuo called upon [the shrine]. He expressed his gratitude for having been honored with a gift list (*mokuroku*) in appreciation of his service in managing the rest area for the *go-naishō-tsukai* (private envoy) during the festival, saying he was most grateful and fortunate for the honor. 12. During the biannual *ishiuchi* (stone-striking ritual), the large number of participants (*kuchi-kazu*) caused confusion in the [officials'] handling of the proceedings, causing considerable difficulty for the shrine officials. [The speaker] expressed a wish that, before the winter *ishiuchi*, a consultation be held and expenses be allocated on a proportional basis (*taka-wari*). This was noted, and the matter was to be discussed at a later date. 13. Regarding the petition for fixed tax assessment (*jō-men*) for Koyama: it had been deliberated during this period that a directive should be issued to the effect that the fixed assessment would continue as before (*kore-made no tōri*). And indeed so it is to be… [text continues on next page]
