According to the account of a person who had returned from Kiga, the hot spring inn called Kameya in that area had incorporated a small stream into its garden for scenic effect. This stream was normally a dry riverbed with only a trickle of clear water, but on that night, water suddenly surged forth. The inn urged its guests to flee to the mountain above. As the wind and rain were fierce and the lights were extinguished, each person clutched a bare candle flame to their chest and managed to escape to the mountain. Afterward, the lower wing of the annex of that hot spring inn was swept away by the water.
◯My friend, Mr. Miyazaki Ittaku, was staying overnight in the area called Misaki in Miura District, Sagami Province, around the 24th or 25th day of the 8th month of that year. On that occasion, after night had fallen and people had grown quiet, an extremely terrible roaring sound came from the sea from some indeterminate direction, which he found most strange; unable to sleep, he passed the entire night awake. When he asked the innkeeper about this, the innkeeper replied that this was what the elders had long called "the battle of the waters." Reflecting on this later, it seems that this was a harbinger of a great typhoon and tsunami, with the waters of the seafloor mixing together and "battling." The local people knew of "the battle of the waters" but did not know it was a sign of a tsunami—this is something one should bear in mind. Upon reflection, the book "Spring and Autumn Annals" records that the Gu and Luo rivers "battled" and broke through the royal palace. Also, a book called "Xingshu Jishi" records that the water deity Luoboyong battled with the water deity Heibo Fengfu; however, the "Xingshu" is a work full of fabrications and a forgery altogether not worth consulting. Nevertheless, the "Spring and Autumn Annals" is a work of the sage, and one cannot imagine it to contain falsehoods.

Furthermore, in the "Treatise on the Five Phases" in the "History of the Song Dynasty," it is recorded that in the 14th year of the Shaoxing era under Emperor Gaozong of Song, in a place called Leping County, river water naturally rose and entered the fields in several hundred locations. Also, the water in the fields was naturally drawn up as if scooped, rising several zhang above the ground, climbing naturally even without embankments or weirs. The water in the wells of houses to the south of that village also rose several chi, shaped just like a rainbow, with a sound equal to thunder, breaking through fences before receding. After more than ten ke had passed, the two bodies of water returned to their original places. Also, in a book called "Shuohai," it is recorded that in a place called Pudingwei in Guizhou, there were two ponds, and at night, the sound of water…
