（前ページより続き）それに従い、家々は水面に浮かび漂い、心細さもいよいよ増して、この世のものとは思えないながらも覚悟を決めていたところ、流れていく家が隣の庭の桃の木に行き当たり、幸いにして遠くへ流されることなく無事でいられたと、夫婦が手に手を取り合って喜び合ったのも当然のことである。
また、砂村のうち大塚村では、くぼんだ土地に建つ百姓家が三軒ほど流されていったが、羅漢寺の在所である大島の聖智院の庭先にて止まったとのことである。この流れていった屋根の上に十三人が乗っていたが、そのうち子供一人は水勢の激しさに恐れ、目がくらんで水中へ落ちて亡くなったとのことである。
◯ 同所の亀沢町通り辺り、緑町通り、竪川通り、この辺りでは天満宮の祭礼のため幟が立てられていたが、ことごとく吹き折れ、あるいは根元から倒れて人家を押しつぶした。一ツ目橋の際（きわ）では小船が多く損じ、大船三艘が石揚場へ打ち上げられた。松井町の遊女屋の仮宅が所々で損じ、あるいは傾いた。林町通りの町家は出水が床上にて止まったとはいえ、屋敷側ではその上三尺余りまで上がった。永井侯の御長屋が崩れ、対州侯の表門より長屋が潰れ崩れた。
◯ 本所割下水辺りのある屋敷では、高潮が床上へ二尺五、六寸上がったので、箪笥が浮き出して水中へのめり込み、引き出しが抜け落ちてしまった。慌てて拾い集め、水が入っているのも構わずはめ置いた。水が引いた後、その引き出しを開けてみると、蛙（カエル）が一匹すくい込まれていて、まだ跳ね回っていたとのことである。また同じ辺りの屋敷では、家の中を鰈（かれい）が一匹泳いでいたが、翌日になって次第に水が引いた後も、なお庭の中に見えていたとのことである。また、芝新銭座でも水が引いた後、崩れた家を取り除けると、烏賊三匹、鮗（こち）一匹、真鯛二匹がいた。そのうち右の鯛はまだ跳ね回っていたので、取って刺身にしたと、ある人が語った。

Then the drifting house struck the peach tree in the neighboring garden, and fortunately it did not float far away; the couple, having escaped unharmed, clasped each other's hands with joy — which was entirely understandable.
Also, in Ōtsuka Village within Sunamura, about three farmhouses situated in low-lying ground were swept away, but came to rest in the garden of Shōchiin Temple on Ōshima, located in the precinct of Rakanji Temple. Thirteen people were riding on the roof of these drifting houses, but one child among them, terrified by the fierce current, became dizzy and fell into the water and perished.
◯ In the same area, along Kamezawa-chō street, Midori-chō street, and Tatekawa street, banners (nobori) had been erected for the Tenjin Shrine festival, but they were all snapped by the wind or toppled from the root, crushing nearby homes. Near Hitotsumebridge, many small boats were damaged, and three large vessels were driven up onto the stone-landing wharf. The brothel temporary quarters in Matsui-chō were damaged or tilted in various places. Along Hayashi-chō street, the townhouses saw floodwaters stop just above the floorboards, but on the estate side the water rose more than three shaku above that. The nagaya (row house) of Lord Nagai collapsed, and from the front gate of Lord Tsushima's estate, the nagaya crumbled and fell.
◯ At a certain estate near Honjo Warigesui, the storm surge rose two shaku and five to six sun above the floor level, causing a chest of drawers to float up and tip into the water, with the drawers falling out. In a panic, they were gathered up and replaced without even bothering about the water inside. After the water receded and they opened those drawers, a frog had been scooped up inside and was still jumping around. At another estate in the same vicinity, a flounder was swimming inside the house; even the following day, as the water gradually receded, it could still be seen in the garden. Furthermore, at Shiba Shinzenza, after the water receded, when they removed the wreckage of a collapsed house, they found three squid, one flathead fish (kochi), and two sea bream. Since the sea bream were still flopping about, they were taken and made into sashimi, according to one account.
◯ In Fukagawa, the area around Rokken-bori was damaged in various places, and about five storehouses of the Atake御船蔵 (government boat storehouse) were severely damaged. The entire area was flooded; the Tokiwa-chō area also sustained damage in various places, and the Takabashi bridge fell, blocking passage. The roads in this area looked like the sea.
