それに従い、家々は水面に浮かび漂い、心細さもいや増して、この世のものとは思えないほどであったが、覚悟を決めていたところ、流れていく家は隣の庭の桃の木にぶつかり、幸いにして遠くへ流れず、無事でいられたとして、夫婦が手に手を取り合い喜び合ったのも、もっともなことである。また、砂村のうち大塚村では、くぼんだ土地にある百姓家が三間ほど流されていったが、羅漢寺の在所にある大島の聖智院の庭前にて止まったとのことである。この流された屋根の上に十三人が乗っていたが、そのうち子供一人は水勢の激しさに恐れをなし、目が眩んだのか水中へ落ちて亡くなったとのことである。

◯ 本所割下水辺りのある屋敷では、高潮が床上へ二尺五、六寸上がったため、箪笥が浮き出て水中へのめり込み、引き出しが抜け落ちた。あわてて拾い集め、水が入っていてもかまわずはめ置いた。水が引いた後、その引き出しを開けて見ると、蛙が一匹すくい込まれ、なおも跳ね回っていたとのことである。また同じ辺りの屋敷では、家の中を鰈が一匹泳いでいたが、翌日になり次第に水が引いた後も、なお庭の中に見えたとのことである。また芝新銭座でも、水が引いた後に家の崩れたものを取り除けると、烏賊三匹、鮗（こち）一匹、真鯛二匹がいた。もっとも、その鯛はまだ跳ね回っていたので、取って刺身にしたと、ある人が語った。

Following the flood, houses floated and drifted upon the water's surface, and the sense of helplessness grew ever greater—it seemed as though this could not be happening in this world. Yet having steeled themselves for the worst, one family's drifting house struck a peach tree in the neighboring garden, and fortunately did not float away to any great distance. Having escaped unharmed, a husband and wife clasped hands and rejoiced together—and rightly so. Furthermore, in Ōtsuka Village, within Sunamura, a sunken peasant's house was carried approximately three *ken* (about 5.4 meters) away, eventually coming to rest in the front garden of Shōchiin Temple on Ōshima, belonging to Rakanjji. Thirteen people were riding atop the roof of this drifting house, but one child among them, terrified by the ferocity of the water and apparently overcome with dizziness, fell into the water and perished.
◯ In the same area—along Kamezawa-chō Avenue, Midori-chō Avenue, and Tatekawa Avenue—banners (*nobori*) had been erected for the Tenmangū festival, but they were all either snapped by the wind or toppled from their bases, crushing nearby houses. At the bank of Hitottsume Bridge, many small boats were damaged, and three large vessels were driven ashore at the stone-landing (*ishiageba*). The licensed quarter's temporary residences (*karitaku*) in Matsui-chō were damaged or tilted in various places. more than three *shaku* (approximately 90 cm) higher. The tenement houses (*nagaya*) of Lord Nagai collapsed, and those of the Lord of Tsushima collapsed and crumbled from the front gate onward.
◯ At a certain estate near Honjo Warigesui, the storm surge rose two *shaku* five or six *sun* (approximately 75–78 cm) above the floorboards, causing a chest of drawers to float out and tip into the water, whereupon the drawers fell out. In a panic, the residents retrieved them and replaced them without concern for the water inside. After the water receded and they later opened one of the drawers, they found a frog that had been scooped inside, still hopping about. At another estate in the same vicinity, a flounder was spotted swimming about inside the house; even the following day, after the water had gradually receded, it could still be seen in the garden. Furthermore, at Shiba Shinsenza, after the floodwaters receded and the wreckage of a collapsed house was cleared away, three squid, one *kochi* (flathead fish), and two sea bream were found. Since the sea bream were still flopping about, they were taken and made into sashimi—or so a certain person told.
◯ In Fukagawa, around Rokken-bori, there was damage in various places, and approximately five buildings of the Atake御船蔵 (official shogunate boat storehouse) were severely damaged. The entire area was flooded.
