One: On the twenty-ninth day of the tenth month, as an expression of gratitude for receiving a condolence offering (kōden) through a shogunal envoy (jōshi) on behalf of Lord Yukichiyo, a messenger, the domain's resident deputy (orsurui) Arakawa Jūemon (Naroaki), was dispatched to the duty councilor (goyōban) Matsudaira Izunokami (Nobuyoshi).
One: On the same day, regarding Doronohara Shinpo-ura, which had an assessed yield (kokudaka) of 460 koku, it was reported by the district magistrate (kōri bugyō) Oguri Jirōemon (Yasumasa) that in recent years the fields had been buried in sand and reduced to a meager state; that furthermore, whereas previously many boats had been owned and operated, their numbers had steadily decreased in recent years; that as a result, the number of households, which had previously exceeded 600, had now fallen to just over 400; and that the payment of annual tributes (onsōjo) had become increasingly difficult. The villagers collectively petitioned for relief measures to be granted.
Note: Regarding this matter, the chief elder (karō) instructed that the magistrates should confer among themselves.
One: On the second day of the eleventh month, in order to inquire about the appropriate timing for the next sankin-kōtai (alternate attendance) in the coming Year of the Ram, a messenger, the duty courier (otsukaiban) Arakawa Sukeemon (■Sō), was dispatched to Edo. He departed Fukui on this day.
One: On the thirteenth day of the same month, the messenger Arakawa Sukeemon (■Sō), who had been sent to inquire about the timing of the sankin-kōtai, appeared before the duty councilor in Edo and presented the letter of inquiry.
One: On the sixteenth day of the same month, the chief elder issued instructions to the town magistrate (machi bugyō) and district magistrate (kōri bugyō) that the buying and selling of shinmatsu (pine kindling/pine cone materials) within the castle town should henceforth cease, and that the sale of such shinmatsu from rural areas should also be strictly prohibited.
One: On the same day, having been summoned by the duty councilor Honda Nakatsukasa-no-taiyū (Tadayoshi), the messenger Arakawa Sukeemon (■Sō), who had been sent to inquire about the timing of the sankin-kōtai, appeared before him and received a shogunal directive (gobusho) stating that the lord should proceed to Edo in the fourth month of the coming year.
