(前頁より続き)また別当から中間に渡され、(中間が)神主へ持参する。 七日、白馬の節会。六人が衣冠姿で、忌子も参拝する。丑の刻に廊下に着座する。陰陽の祓を廊下にて行う。神主の中間(二人)のうち一人は御馬引きを務める。からさけ(一尺)一本と、箱の蓋に洗米一升を入れて中間に持たせて参る。からさけは社頭にて別当に渡し、洗米は所司大夫に渡す。その後、まぐさ(秣)を受け取り、御馬に〔欄間の前にて〕神前で与える。(俗に云う)残った米は「はぎりの薬」と称して人々が祝って頂く。 御戸を開けて内陣へ入り、しばらくして神主が権祝に申し、それから別当に申し伝え、それから神人に申し付けて、御馬屋へ七度半の使いを立てて催す。閉帳して片岡まで宮巡りをして、御札屋に着き直会を行う。神主・祝の両人の前に火桶に火を入れて置く。これは刀祢の役目である。炭は大原の小使が持参する。灯明がある。これは小預の役目である。鯛(一枚)・飛魚(三枚)は神人が持参する。雑水の飯一坏も同人が持参する。今日、神主のもとへ神人四人・神夫一人、以上五人が来て、御味噌酒を饗する。 十二日、卯杖の神事である。前社司たちが参勤する。卯杖は内陣にそのまま置くものとのことである。 十四日、御棚会。前社司たちが参勤する。作法・奉幣は例の通りである。 十五日、粥の御料。前と同じく前社司が参る。 廿一日、燈灯。これは前社司は参らなくてよい。代官・祝の方が参勤する事。   二月 晦日、土解祭である。六人が衣冠姿で、土屋が着座する。未の上刻に参る。その作法は(以下の通り)。前月廿六日に別当大夫から神主・正祝へ、位と名乗りを尋ねに来る。変わりはないかとのことである。陰陽と形(かた)を書き付けるためである。当日は御戸開け以下、常の通りに行い、宮巡りをして、また土屋に着く。矢刀祢が二の鳥居の外〔榎の西、道の西〕に稲二束を置く。穂の末は南向き、根本は北にある。小さなもっこ(畚)を少しの紙で巻いて置く。清めのためと云々。もみ穂を紙に包み、その稲に副えて置く。また弓二張、矢一手ずつを左右に置く。

(Continued from previous page) ...the item is then passed from the bettō to a middle-ranking attendant (chūgen), who brings it to the head priest (kannagi). **7th Day: White Horse Ceremony (Hakuba no Sechie)** Six officials in formal court cap-and-robe dress (ikan) attend, along with the Imiko. They take their seats in the corridor at the Hour of the Ox (approximately 1–3 a.m.). A yin-yang purification ritual (harae) is performed in the corridor. Of the head priest's two middle-ranking attendants, one serves as the horse-leader. One piece of dried salmon (karazake, one shaku in length) and a box lid containing one shō of washed rice are carried by the middle-ranking attendants as they proceed. The dried salmon is handed over to the bettō at the shrine, and the washed rice is handed to the Shoshi-dayū. After this, fodder (magusa) is received and fed to the sacred horse before the deity [in front of the transom (ranma)]. The remaining rice is called "hagiri medicine" and is distributed for people to celebrate and consume. The sanctuary doors are opened and entry is made into the inner sanctuary. After a short time, the head priest informs the Gon-Hafuri, who then conveys the message to the bettō, who in turn instructs the shrine attendants (jinnin) to dispatch messengers to the sacred stable seven-and-a-half times to carry out the ceremony. The sanctuary doors are closed, and a tour of the shrine precincts is conducted up to Kataoka. Upon arriving at the Ofuda-ya (amulet hall), the naorai feast takes place. Charcoal braziers with fire burning inside are placed before both the head priest and the Hafuri. This is the duty of the Tōne. The charcoal is brought by an errand-person from Ōhara. Lantern light is provided — this is the duty of the Ko-azukari. Sea bream (one piece) and flying fish (three pieces) are brought by the shrine attendants. One bowl of miscellaneous porridge-rice (zōsui no ii) is also brought by the same person. On this day, four shrine attendants (jinnin) and one shrine servant (kannagi) — five persons in total — come before the head priest and are served miso-sake. **12th Day: Utsugi-tsue (U-no-tsue) Ritual** The former shrine administrators (zen-shashi) attend and perform their duties. The ritual staff (utsugi-tsue/u-no-tsue) is left as it is inside the inner sanctuary. **14th Day: Go-tana-e (Sacred Shelf Ceremony)** The former shrine administrators attend and perform their duties. The ritual procedures and offering of the sacred branch (hōhei) proceed as customary. **15th Day: Porridge Offerings (Kayu no Go-ryō)** Same as the preceding — the former shrine administrators attend. **21st Day: Lighting of Lanterns (Tōtō)** The former shrine administrators are not required to attend this event. The proxy official (daikan) and the Hafuri group attend and perform their duties. --- **Second Month** **Last Day of the Month: Tsuchi-toki Festival (Earth-Release Ceremony)** Six officials attend in cap-and-robe (ikan) dress, and Tsuchiya takes his seat. They proceed at the upper part of the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 1–2 p.m.). Regarding the procedures: on the 26th of the previous month, the bettō-dayū comes to inquire of the head priest and the Shō-Hafuri as to their rank and names, asking whether anything has changed. This is done in order to record the yin-yang designation and the prescribed forms. On the day of the ceremony, the opening of the sanctuary doors and all subsequent proceedings follow the usual custom. After the shrine circuit, Tsuchiya takes his seat again. The Yato-ne (arrow keeper) places two bundles of rice stalks outside the Second Torii gate [to the west of the elm tree, on the west side of the path]. The tips of the ears of grain face south, and the roots face north. A small wicker basket (mokkō) is wrapped in a little paper and placed there — said to be for the purpose of purification. Unhusked grain heads (momi-ho) are wrapped in paper and placed alongside the rice stalks. Furthermore, two bows and one set of arrows each are placed to the left and right.
