小ナルヲ黒鳥（クロト）ト云秧鶏トハ
大ナルヲ云大小共ニ渡リ鳥ナリ
目足赤シ故ニ日本記皇極
記ニ水鶏ヲ倶比那（クヒナ）ト訓スク
イナ■【抑ヵ】クハ黒鳥ナリ夜ナキ
テ其声人ノ戸ヲ扣クカ如シ故ニ
歌人詠￣ス＿レ之是黒鳥ナリ
現代語訳
『崔禹錫食経』に云う：
鼃鳥（わどり）《和名「くひな」、『漢語抄』には「水鶏」とある》
秧鶏（クイナ） 《また「水鶏」とも書く》
壬辰年、南呂（九月）、千駄木にて
ある人より送られた本を写し取る
緋秧鶏 《ヒクイナ》
小さいものを「黒鳥（クロト）」と言い、「秧鶏（クイナ）」とは
大きいものを指す。大小ともに渡り鳥である。
目と足が赤い。それゆえ『日本書紀』皇極紀に
水鶏を「倶比那（クイナ）」と訓じている。
おそらく【抑ヵ】「クイナ」とは黒鳥のことである。夜に鳴いて、
その声は人が戸を叩くようである。それゆえ
歌人がこれを詠む。これ（夜に戸を叩くもの）は黒鳥のことである。

According to the 'Cui Yushi Shokukei' (Cui Yushi's Classic of Foods):
Watori (frog-bird): 《Japanese reading "Kuina"; the 'Kango-shō' gives "Suikei" (water chicken)》
Yōkei (Kuina/Rail) 《Also written as "Suikei" (水鶏)》

Scarlet Rail: 《Hi-kuina》
The smaller one is called "Kuroto" (Black Bird), while "Kuina" (Rail) refers
to the larger one. Both large and small are migratory birds.
Their eyes and feet are red. For this reason, in the 'Nihon Shoki,' in the
Kōgyoku section, the water rail is read as "Kuina" (倶比那).
Most likely 【uncertain character, possibly 抑 "Suppressing/Rather"】 "Kuina" refers to the Kuroto. It cries at night,
and its voice sounds like a person knocking on a door. For this reason,
poets compose verses about it. This (the one that knocks at doors at night) is the Kuroto.
