現代語訳
## 雷鳥（鶆鳥） 《雌雄》 飛騨国乗鞍岳の産
『雷震記』に云う：
飛騨国の乗鞍岳に雷鳥がいる。担当者が数十羽を捕らえたが、（途中で）死んでしまった。そこで餌袋を裂いて調べてみると、松の実が入っていた。そこで早速、松の実を与えて飼育したが、京都まで生きたまま届いたのは五、六羽に過ぎなかった。風土の違いがあるのだろうか、云々。
『夫木抄』第二十巻・山の部、正治二年百首の御歌：
後鳥羽院 御製
しら山の 松の木蔭に かくろいて
やすらに すめる らいの鳥かな
（白山の松の木陰にひっそりと隠れて、安らかに棲んでいる雷鳥であることよ。）
従二位 家隆
あわれなり こしの白根に 住む鳥も
松を頼て 世をあかすらん
（ああ、哀れなことよ。越の白山に棲む鳥（雷鳥）も、松の実を頼りにして日々を過ごしているのだろう。）
英語訳
## Rock Ptarmigan (Raicho) — Male and Female Produced on Mount Norikura, Hida Province
From the *Raishink* (*Record of Thunder*):
There are Rock Ptarmigans on Mount Norikura in Hida Province. Officials captured several dozen birds, but they died [before reaching the capital]. When the crop (food pouch) was cut open and examined, pine seeds were found inside. They promptly tried feeding the remaining birds pine seeds, but only five or six birds survived the journey to Kyoto. Perhaps there is a difference in the natural environment [that made them difficult to keep alive], and so forth.

(Hidden in the shade of the pine trees on the white mountain, the rock ptarmigan dwells in peaceful tranquility.)
Junior Second Rank Ietaka (Fujiwara no Ietaka)
*Aware nari Koshi no Shirane ni sumu tori mo*
*matsu o tayorite yo o akasu ran*
(How poignant — even the birds dwelling on Mount Shirane of Koshi must pass their days relying on the pine trees for sustenance.)
