現代語訳
桃右衛門の妻が桃を食べてから、ただならぬ身（妊娠）となったので、桃右衛門は大いに喜び、「これは間違いなく西王母がお授けくださった子であろう」と、月日が満ちるのを指折り数えて待っていた。
程なく臨月となり、安産して玉のような男子を産んだが、不思議なことに、この子は頭が二つある赤子であった。
♪『両面年代記』に「山城の国にて頭が二つある子を産む」と記されているのも、この類いであろう。
♪桃右衛門は初め、妻や家のものが大騒ぎするのに驚いた。
「おやおやおやおや」
『三才図会』に曰く、「陽霊山の神は姿が人に似ていて二つの頭があり、名づけて驕虫という」と記されている。天地の造化は限りないのだから、両頭の人がいないとは言えない。
両頭の赤子が「おぎゃあおぎゃあ」と掛け合いに泣く。
【産婆の台詞】
♪はて、さても奇妙なお子じゃ。両頭では...見世物小屋で見せたらよいかね。儲けになるだろう。
英語訳
After Momoemon's wife ate the peach, she became pregnant, so Momoemon was greatly delighted, saying "This must surely be a child bestowed by the Queen Mother of the West." He counted on his fingers waiting for the months to pass.
Before long, she reached full term and gave safe birth to a son beautiful as a jewel, but strangely, this child was a baby with two heads.
♪ The "Ryōmen Nendaiki" (Chronicle of Two Faces) records that "in Yamashiro Province, a child with two heads was born" - this must be of the same kind.
♪ At first, Momoemon was surprised by his wife and household members making such a great commotion.
"Oh my, oh my, oh my, oh my"
The "Sancai Tuhui" (Illustrated Compendium of the Three Powers) states: "The deity of Mount Yōrei has the form of a human but with two heads, and is called Kyōchū." Since the creative power of heaven and earth is limitless, one cannot say that two-headed people do not exist.
The two-headed baby cries "wah wah" in alternation.
【Midwife's dialogue】
♪ Well now, what a strange child this is. With two heads... it would be good to display it at a sideshow, wouldn't it? That would be profitable.
