当寺の本尊の起源については以下の通りである。人王六十一代・朱雀院の承平二年、当郡・末野の郷、花薗山の城主、何某という左衛門督とかいう人物の、悪名高い武士の重臣がいた。その者は君主の威光を借りて、驕り高ぶり、放蕩の限りを尽くし、それぞれがその邪悪さを憎んでいたが、彼の一時の……

Regarding the origins of the principal image of this temple: In the second year of Jōhei, during the reign of the sixty-first human sovereign, Emperor Suzaku, in the village of Sueno in this district, at the castle on Mount Hanazono, there was a high-ranking retainer of a certain lord — a man known by some name such as "Saemon no Kami" — who was a chief vassal of notorious ill repute among warriors.
