金杉板本大につぶれ根ぎしは少々崩る夫ゟたんほ幸龍寺辺大にくづる
六郷様御やしき少々いたむ又聖天町山の宿花川戸此へんおひたゞしく崩る
金龍山浅草寺は本堂つゝがなし五重の塔少々損ず又並木通り村木丁
広小路田原町仲町此辺少々損じ森下加藤遠江守様御下やしき大いに
つぶれ又駒がたゟ出火してすわ丁黒舟丁みよし丁河岸通り迄焼失みよし
丁角にて一ばん組けし留る夫ゟ御蔵前通り少々そんじ東御門跡はつゝか
なしから門崩る又下谷広徳寺前寺院町家大に崩る中につゝがなき所

安政息災記

そもそも天地の変動は陰陽の剛柔によって生じるものである。あるときは雲を起こして雨を降らし、風を生じて雷を発する。これはみな人の身体に病気が生じるのと同じである。ああ、天の定めよ、運命よ。

安政二年（1855年）十月二日夜の午後十時頃、突然大地震が発生した。大地震が揺り起こし、鉄の城のような土蔵や人家がことごとく瞬時に揺り崩され、その死者の数は数え切れない。哀れで無常なことである。

まず北の千住宿は大きく揺り崩れ、小塚原は地震の上に出火して残らず焼失した。新吉原は大半が揺り崩れ、少しは残ったとはいえ、京町一丁目・同二丁目から出火し、また角町・揚屋町・江戸町一丁目・二丁目とも所々から火が出て、残らず焼失した。遊女その他死者の数は知れない。もっとも江戸町一丁目の角三軒が残り、京町一丁目の片角六七軒が残り、五十軒西側の半分が残った。

そこから土手下田町・竹門・南北馬道・猿若町一丁目・二丁目・三丁目は残らず焼失した。楽屋新道は片側が残った。また田中から山谷・浅草町・新鳥越・橋場・今戸はひどく潰れ、往来は山のようになって通行が困難となった。死者は最も多い。また大音寺前・箕輪・金杉・坂本は大きく潰れ、根岸は少々崩れた。そこから谷中・幸龍寺辺りは大きく崩れた。六郷様御屋敷は少々損傷した。また聖天町・山の宿・花川戸このあたりはひどく崩れた。

金龍山浅草寺は本堂に支障なく、五重塔は少々損じた。また並木通り・村木町・広小路・田原町・仲町このあたりは少々損じ、森下の加藤遠江守様御下屋敷は大いに潰れた。また駒形から出火して諏訪町・黒船町・三好町・河岸通りまで焼失し、三好町角で一番組が消し止めた。そこから御蔵前通りは少々損じ、東御門跡は支障なかったが門が崩れた。また下谷広徳寺前・寺院町家は大きく崩れたが、中に支障のない所もあった。

Record of the Ansei Disaster Prevention

Natural disasters and changes in heaven and earth arise from the interaction of yin and yang, hardness and softness. Sometimes clouds form to bring rain, and wind generates thunder. This is just like how illnesses arise in the human body. Alas, it is the will of heaven, it is fate!

On the night of October 2nd, Ansei 2 (1855), around 10 PM, a great earthquake suddenly occurred. The massive earthquake shook and instantly destroyed storehouses strong as iron castles and all manner of houses. The number of deaths was beyond counting. What a pitiful and tragic event.

First, in the north, Senju-juku was greatly shaken and collapsed. Kozukahara suffered earthquake damage and then fire, burning completely. Shin-Yoshiwara was mostly shaken down, and though some remained, fires broke out from Kyō-chō 1st and 2nd districts, as well as from Kaku-chō, Ageya-chō, and Edo-chō 1st and 2nd districts, burning everything completely. The number of courtesans and other deaths was incalculable. However, three buildings at the corner of Edo-chō 1st district remained, six or seven buildings at one corner of Kyō-chō 1st district remained, and half of the fifty buildings on the west side remained.

From there, Doteshita-Tamachi, Takemon, North and South Umamichi, and Saruwaka-chō 1st, 2nd, and 3rd districts all burned completely. One side of Gakuya-shindō remained. Also, from Tanaka to Sanya, Asakusa-chō, Shin-Torigoe, Hashiba, and Imado were terribly destroyed, with the streets piled up like mountains, making passage difficult. The deaths were most numerous here. Also, in front of Daion-ji temple, Minowa, Kanasugi, and Sakamoto were greatly destroyed, while Negishi suffered some collapse. From there, Yanaka and the area around Kōryū-ji temple were greatly destroyed. Lord Rokugō's residence suffered some damage. Also, Shōten-chō, Yamano-yado, and Hanakawado in this area collapsed terribly.

At Kinryūzan Sensō-ji temple, the main hall was unharmed, but the five-story pagoda was slightly damaged. Also, Namiki-dōri, Muraki-chō, Hirokōji, Tahara-chō, and Naka-chō suffered slight damage, while Lord Katō Tōtōmi-no-kami's lower residence in Morishita was greatly destroyed. Fire also broke out from Komagata, burning Suwa-chō, Kurofune-chō, Miyoshi-chō, and up to Kashi-dōri, but was extinguished by the first fire brigade at Miyoshi-chō corner. From there, Okura-mae-dōri suffered slight damage, and while the East Gate ruins were unharmed, the gate collapsed. Also, in front of Kōtoku-ji in Shitaya, temple and town buildings were greatly destroyed, though some places in between remained unharmed.
