損失老若男女の死亡は大方ならず一々これを記すに尽ず翌三日夕刻迄
焼｜漸（やうや）く火鎭り諸人安｜堵（ど）の思ひをなす且（かつ）その後時々地ゆるぐ事あれども
損亡に至らす此由を諸国親るい縁者のものへ知らしめんが為に天地 循環（じゆんくわん）時節（じせつ）

（前ページより続く）損失・老若男女の死亡はおびただしく、一々これを記し尽くすことはできない。翌三日の夕刻になって漸く火が鎮まり、人々はようやく安堵の思いをした。そしてその後も時々地が揺れることはあったが、大きな被害には至らなかった。このことを諸国の親類・縁者へ知らせるために、天地の巡り合わせによって起きたこの出来事の概略を調べまとめて、一覧として伝えるものである。

このような天変地異による難事があったとはいえ、御仁政のありがたさには、御公儀様（幕府）より、幸橋御門外・深川海辺大工町・浅草広小路へ直ちに仮小屋を建てていただき、窮民を救い入れてくださった。その他にも種々の御救済のお手当てがあり、その御恩沢のありがたさは、申し上げることも到底おろかなほどである。寝食の間も忘れることなく、恐れ多くも是非ともご拝謝申し上げるべきことである。

(Continued from previous page) The losses, and the deaths of people young and old, men and women, were beyond measure, and cannot be recorded one by one in their entirety. By the evening of the following third day, the fires finally subsided, and people at last felt a sense of relief. After that, the ground continued to shake from time to time, but no further great damage was caused. In order to inform relatives and acquaintances throughout the various provinces of these events, we have investigated and compiled a summary of this occurrence — brought about by the cyclic workings of heaven and earth — and hereby present it as a general overview.

Although such a calamity arising from this extraordinary turn of events has befallen us, how deeply grateful we must be for the benevolent governance of the Bakufu (the Shogunal government): immediately, temporary shelters were erected outside the Saiwai-bashi Gate, in Fukagawa Umibe-Daiku-chō, and at Asakusa Hirokōji, and the destitute were received and relieved therein. In addition, various other relief measures and provisions were extended, and the depth of this gracious beneficence is so great that words are wholly inadequate to express it. Even in the midst of sleep and meals, one does not forget it; with the utmost reverence, one can only offer one's most humble and heartfelt gratitude.
