ノの臺盤をこなふ侍のかたのうへのまりなと蹴て
父卿よりこゝかしこの地まりのてんとうに給はるとしるを
りなをし人二千日のまりの結願によろしき人に
檀紙薄様侍の輩に装束を給とかけり是則
禄物の其一也故■相禅門も園満院にて鞠の
侍るしに名足蹴て賞に雪打ちと申牛をた
まはれしとまさいくかたり申され侍き近年
にてはなしと名足に賞をこなはるゝ事も
公私侍らねはよきあしたしなみても更々
其詮なき事なるへし

現代語訳

の台盤を扱う侍の肩の上の鞠などを蹴って、父卿からここかしこの地鞠の天道に賜ると記されている。なおし人は二千日の鞠の結願に良い人に檀紙・薄様、侍の輩に装束を給うと書かれている。これすなわち禄物の一つである。故■相禅門も園満院にて鞠が候うときに名足を蹴って、賞に雪打ちと申す牛を賜ったと、正幾が語り申されていた。近年では名足に賞を行うことも公私ともに無いので、良い悪いを嗜んでも全く意味のないことであろう。

英語訳

...kicking the kemari above the shoulders of the samurai who handled the ceremonial tables, it is recorded that rewards were bestowed by his father lord for various ground kemari performances. The "naoshi-jin" (corrector) gave fine paper and thin paper to worthy people for the thousand-day kemari prayer completion, and gave costumes to the samurai retainers. This is indeed one type of reward. The late ■-sō Zen monk also, when there was kemari at Enman-in, kicked skillfully and received as a prize an ox called "yukiuchi" (snow-beater), as Masaiku related. In recent years, since there are no rewards given for skillful play, either publicly or privately, there would be no point at all in cultivating good or bad techniques.
