### **Rinkin (林檎) — Apple**
**Japanese names:** *Ryūgō* (from *Wamyōshō*); *Rinko*; *Aworinko* (Yamato Province)
**Other names:** *Kakō* (from *Shanamfushi*); *Bunrin* — common name; *Mitsuka* (from *Gunpōgo*); *Reikitan* (same source); *Bunkanka* (from *Hanagoyomi Hyakuei*); *Rinyaku* (from *Meibutsu Hōgen*)
The tree resembles the *kaikkō* (海紅, Chinese flowering crabapple), and the bark on the shaded side of the trunk is darker in color. The tree grows to over one *jō* in height (approximately 3 meters or more). The leaves also resemble those of the *kaikkō*, being large and thick, without red coloration. In spring, clusters of five-petaled, light pink flowers bloom among the tender new shoots, and the tree bears five or six fruits. The fruits are round, similar in size to *ishinashi* (stone pear). When ripe, the side facing the sun turns red, and the flavor is sweet.

### **Shi (柹) — Kaki / Persimmon**
**Japanese names:** *Kaki* (from *Wamyōshō*); *Hiiso* (variant name); *Sekijitsuka* (from *Tenseki Benran*)
**Other names:** *Teikyūran* (from *Meibutsu Hōgen*); *Shichikika* (same source); *Kinyō* (from *Honzō Wamyō*, citing *Kenmeien*); *Mitsumaro*; *Shūjitsu* (both from same source); *Shishu* (from *Kyūkō Honzō*)

## **[Left Page]**
The persimmon tree is commonly planted in the gardens of homes. The bark is black, and as the tree ages, it develops a scale-like, armored texture. The leaves resemble those of *goshitsu* (午膝, a plant resembling *Achyranthes*), being thick. In spring, yellow, four-petaled flowers bloom among the leaves. The flower shape resembles that of a jar or vase (*tsubo*).

### **Kōshi (紅柹) — Gosho-Gaki (御所柿, Gosho Persimmon)**
*(as cited in the "Shūkai / Collected Commentaries")*
**Also known as:** *Yamato-gaki*; *Koneri-gaki*
This variety originates from Gosho Village in Yamato Province (present-day Nara Prefecture) and is a noted local specialty. The fruit is round in shape with slight indentations on four sides. When still green, it is astringent. When fully ripe and red, its sweetness is matchless, and it is considered a product of the highest quality.
