一くらゐさげて百を一はいにして二百と
置此下に又廿と置さて法にて下法の

第二十 開平円法の事
○一寸四方の坪あるひは七百十一を開平円法にしてさし
わたしなにほとあるそといふに 〽さしわたし
三尺といふ 法にまつ七百十一坪と右に置円法七九
にてわれは九百坪になるこれを開平をもつてのぞ
けはさしわたし三尺としれ申なり
現代語訳
商の百の次に二十と置き、下法は一桁下げて百を一倍にして二百と置く。この下に又二十と置き、法によって下法の二百に商の二十を掛ける。二×二の四千、二×二の四百、この四千四百を実から引く。
実に残り七百二十九坪ある
商の二十の次に三と置き、下法は一位下げて二十を一倍にして四十と置く。この下に又三と置き、法によって商の三をもって下法を掛ける。二×三の六百、三×四の百二十、三×三の九と置くとき、法に七百二十九坪ある。これを実から引き払う。
さて商を見れば
百二十三間四方になる
第二十 開平円法の事
一寸四方の坪、あるいは七百十一を開平円法にして差し渡しは何ほどあるかという問に 差し渡し三尺という
法にまず七百十一坪と右に置く。円法七九にて割れば九百坪になる。これを開平をもって除けば差し渡し三尺と知れ申すなり。
英語訳
Place twenty next to one hundred in the quotient, lower the divisor by one digit, multiply one hundred by one to make two hundred. Place twenty below this again, and multiply the divisor two hundred by the quotient twenty according to the method. Two times two makes four thousand, two times two makes four hundred. Subtract this four thousand four hundred from the dividend.
Seven hundred twenty-nine tsubo remain in the dividend.
Place three next to twenty in the quotient, lower the divisor by one digit, multiply twenty by one to make forty. Place three below this again, and multiply the divisor by the quotient three according to the method. Two times three makes six hundred, three times four makes one hundred twenty, three times three makes nine. When placed, there are seven hundred twenty-nine tsubo in the method. Subtract this from the dividend.
Looking at the quotient:
It becomes one hundred twenty-three ken square.
Chapter Twenty: The Method of Square Root for Circles
For one sun square tsubo, or seven hundred eleven, using the square root method for circles, how much is the diameter? The diameter is three shaku.
In the method, first place seven hundred eleven tsubo on the right. Divided by the circular method of seven-nine, it becomes nine hundred tsubo. Using square root to divide this, the diameter is known to be three shaku.
