海嘯被害録下巻
今回の海嘯たるや実に本邦未曽有の災害にして狂瀾怒濤の逆捲き来り三
陸沿海の地を一掃して極目数十里の間浦と云はず村と云はず無惨にも家
屋を流亡し田園を破壊し三万の生霊を挙げて一夕不祀の鬼と化せしめき
弊堂此報に接するや逸早く視察員を派遣し記事に絵画に其実况を摸写し
来り他日の史料にもやと風俗画報を臨時増刊して海嘯被害録と題し之を
世に公にするに及びて意外にも非常の喝采を以て迎へられ其上巻の如き
は数版を重ぬるに至れり况んや今日再ひ中巻発兌の栄を得たるも偏に弊
堂が忠実熱心なると読者諸君の夙に同情を表して被害者を憫み給ふの一
轍に外ならじ猶其下巻は来る八月五日を期し引き続て発兌すべければ上
中二巻にも増して愛読玉はむことを請ふと云ふ

海嘯被害録 下巻
今回の津波は、まさに我が国未曽有の大災害であり、荒れ狂う怒濤が逆巻いて三陸沿岸一帯を根こそぎ襲い、見渡す限り数十里の間、浦という浦、村という村を問わず、無惨にも家屋を押し流し、田畑を破壊し、三万の人命を一夜にして祀られることもない霊魂へと変えてしまいました。
弊社はこの報せを受けるや、いち早く視察員を現地に派遣し、記事と絵画によってその実況を記録してまいりました。後世の史料にもなればと、『風俗画報』を臨時増刊して『海嘯被害録』と題し、これを世に公表したところ、予想に反して大変な好評をもって迎えられ、上巻に至っては重版を重ねるほどとなりました。まして今回、中巻を発刊する栄誉を得られましたのも、ひとえに弊社の誠実な取り組みと、読者の皆様が被災者へのご同情をいち早く示してくださったおかげに他なりません。なお、下巻は来る八月五日を期して引き続き発刊いたしますので、上巻・中巻にも増してご愛読くださいますようお願い申し上げます。

**Record of Tsunami Disaster — Volume Three (Lower Volume)**
The tsunami of this occasion was truly an unprecedented disaster in our nation's history. Raging, furious waves crashed in reverse upon the entire Sanriku coastline, sweeping all before them across a distance of many tens of leagues. Without exception, every inlet and every village in their path was mercilessly struck — houses were swept away, farmlands destroyed, and thirty thousand souls were transformed in a single night into spirits left without proper memorial rites.
Upon receiving this news, our company immediately dispatched investigators to the affected areas, gathering firsthand accounts and illustrations to faithfully document the actual conditions on the ground. Hoping that these records might also serve as historical materials for future generations, we published a special supplementary edition of *Fūzoku Gahō* under the title *Record of Tsunami Disaster*. To our surprise, it was received with extraordinary acclaim, and the upper volume went through multiple print runs. That we are now honored to publish the middle volume as well is due entirely to our company's sincere and earnest efforts, and to our readers' prompt and heartfelt sympathy for the victims. The lower volume is scheduled for publication on August 5th, and we humbly request that you continue to read it with even greater enthusiasm than you have shown for the upper and middle volumes.
