に軽（かろ）き者（もの）の孫嫡子（まごちやくし）なり女房（にようぼう）は軽井沢（かるゐさわ）の軽女（かるこ）にて
軽々（かろ〳〵）しきものなり依之（これによつて）板元（はんもと）の頼（たのみ）を手軽（てがる）く請合（うけあひ）赤（あか）

《疱瘡安躰》笹湯の寿

この本の作者は、出身国（生国）が越前の湯尾峠の麓で、まことに「軽い」者の孫であり嫡子である。女房は軽井沢の「軽子（かるこ）」であって、夫婦ともども軽々しい者である。それゆえ、板元（出版元）の頼みを手軽く引き受け、赤本を見事に山と積み上げようと、紅筆を取って起き上がり、さっさと足早に、ぱらりと書き上げて、めでたく記すものである。

　疱瘡に妙薬となる

《Smallpox Relief》 The Celebration of Sasa-yu

The author of this book hails from the foot of Yunoo Pass in Echizen Province, and is the eldest grandson of a truly "light" (frivolous/carefree) fellow. His wife is a "light woman" from Karuizawa, making them both a thoroughly lighthearted couple. For this reason, he cheerfully accepted the publisher's request without hesitation, and taking up his rouge-brush with the intent to magnificently pile up a mountain of red-covered books, he rose to the task, dashed it off at a quick pace, and auspiciously sets it down here.
