**[Right folio]** The procedure is as follows: the bales (tawara) are placed to the left and right in front of the tateizuna (立砂, conical sand mounds) in the small garden (kogawa). The form of the bales follows the standard style; however, at the tied openings on the upper side, one sheet of hanshi (half-sized paper) is placed in each, and two gō (合) of the honored sealed rice (gofūmai/御封米) are put in. This paper is for the mouth of the ne-dawara (禰俵, priestly bales). The paper for this purpose (one layer of hanshi) is provided by the Azukari Taifu (預大夫, custodian chief), and in advance the Ya-tone (矢刀禰, arrow-bearing shrine official) receives it at the Azukari-tei (預亭, custodian's residence). According to ancient custom, this paper was used for the measurement (details unclear, noted as "云々"). Next, the Betto Taifu (別当大夫, chief administrator) comes from the Nishi Okusho (西御供所, western offering hall) to the foot of the eastern steps of the Gonden (権殿, auxiliary shrine), places kawarake (土器, unglazed earthenware vessels) on the御台盤 (ondaiban, an offering tray-stand), and waits nearby (notably, eleven kawarake for three rounds are brought on a round tray/丸盤). When the appointed time arrives, he takes one of those kawarake, passes through the Sukiro (透廊, open corridor), and descends into the small garden (barefoot, descending between the Honmiya's worship pillar and the Sukiro pillar). He has the Ya-tone measure out the gofūmai. Once the measuring is complete, the bales are cleared away and the Ya-tone withdraws. The procedure is as follows: washed rice (aramai/洗米) is used as the gofūmai. The Ya-tone prepares and presents it. First, measurement begins with the Negi-kata's (禰宜方) portion, then proceeds alternately between the left and right of the Hafuri-kata (祝方). Counting "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine" (hi-fu-mi-yo-i-mu-na-ya-ko, the ancient Japanese numeral reading), the left and right are measured together, for a total of nine measurements in one round. At that time, the rice is received into the kawarake held by the Betto and placed on the ondaiban. The remaining kawarake are then brought, and measurement is repeated in the same manner as before. **[Left folio]** In this way, the procedure is carried out a total of eleven times. Of these, three times are for the left and right portions of the Honmiya (本宮, main shrine) and for the Gonden (権殿, auxiliary shrine), one vessel each; the remaining eight are for the eight subsidiary shrines. When the measuring is complete, the vessels for the Honmiya, Gonden, and eight shrines are lined up in a single row on the ondaiban without mixing them up (with west at the top/head). Once the measuring is finished, one senior Tone (刀禰, lower shrine official) comes up to the courtyard of the Gonden, and the Betto hands them over. These are then carried to the Nishi Okusho (western offering preparation hall). The Hafuri-kata's portion is carried to the Higashi Okusho (東御供所, eastern offering preparation hall). Next, the Azukari Taifu comes to the Watadono (渡殿, covered bridge-corridor) and hands over the honored key (onkagi/御鍵) to the Hafuri (祝, ritualist priest). Next, the Hafuri rises from his seat, proceeds to the divine presence, and opens the sacred door (mito/御戸), as is customary. He then descends to the doi (土居, earthen foundation/threshold area). At that moment, the Kannagi (神主, chief priest) rises from his seat, proceeds to the doi, stands alongside the Hafuri, performs one bow (ippai/一拝), and enters the inner sanctuary (naijin/内陣). Next, the Shō- and Gon-negi (正・権禰宜, senior and deputy associate priests) and those below them perform one bow as customary, and then wait in attendance at the ōyuka (大床, main floor/platform) and below the steps, etc. Three lower-ranking ujibito (氏人, clan members) responsible for transferring the offerings (tengu/転供) proceed to the Hafuri-kata's Watadono (this is because only the Hafuri-kata's portion [kata goryō/片御料] is involved). Next, the Hafuri rolls up the reed blind (misu/御簾).
