夜中雷電が大いに鳴り、翌七日昼も闇夜のような降灰が続き、その夜はいよいよ大量の降灰となって、同八日昼四つ過ぎまで降り続けました。砂の厚さは二寸七分余り、一坪ほどの場所に立ったところ一石五斗三升余りになりました。ただし一升の砂の重さは四百三十匁でございます。田畑へ降った砂は五六寸で、これにより作物は一同砂に埋もれてしまいました。しかしながらその間、雨は少しも降りませんでした。八日八つ時、利根川に泥水が大量に流れ、大石が火に焼かれながら流れて川中へ煙が立ち、陸に押し上げられました。これにより当宿と五料宿の間の川の通行が止まり、日光往来が通行止めとなり、三国通りも同様に通行止めとなりましたので、恐れながら御訴え申し上げます。以上

During the night, thunder and lightning roared greatly, and the following day, the 7th, even during daytime it was like a dark night with continuous ash fall. That night the ash fall became even heavier, continuing until past the fourth hour of the 8th day at noon. The thickness of the sand was about 2 sun and 7 bu, and when measured in a space of about one tsubo, it amounted to over 1 koku, 5 to, and 3 sho. However, the weight of one sho of this sand was 430 monme. The sand that fell on the rice fields and farmland was 5 to 6 sun deep, and consequently all crops were buried in sand. Nevertheless, during this time, no rain fell at all. At the eighth hour on the 8th day, muddy water flowed heavily in the Tone River, with large stones flowing while still burning with fire, smoke rising from the river, and being pushed up onto land. Due to this, river passage between our post station and Goryō post station was blocked, the Nikko highway was closed to traffic, and the Mikuni route was similarly blocked, so we humbly submit this petition.
