国の繁栄の基となるべき例を挙げて語る。この身も罪深いゆえに、地震で潰れた掘っ建て小屋に、しばらく籠もって世の人々の欠点と癖を書き記しておく。筆の命毛よ、ああ恐ろしいことよ。
英語訳
I shall cite examples that should serve as the foundation for the nation's prosperity. Because of my own deep sins, I take refuge for a while in this makeshift hut damaged by the earthquake, and record the flaws and peculiarities of the people of this world. Oh, how fearsome is the life-giving tip of my brush!
