落塩の天子をはしめ月卿雲客一蓬の漏露に涙を
なかし帆を漂泊の浪にまかせて豊前国柳か浦に着
せたまひてしはしは君震#2襟をやすめ給ひしかは官軍
一先安堵のおもひをなせり斯りし処に三月廿ニ日
とかや思はさるに範頼義経兵船数千にて押寄せ
幡籏を春風にひるかへし矢を射る事雨のことし
櫓械のうたは天にふるはし鯢波の声海底を驚か
すされは兵は凶器武は逆徳とはいへとも王土に身をよせし
武士ともなさけなくも先帝の御座船天子の龍顔を
はゝからす七重八重に打かこむ官軍今を限りと防戦

けとられ給ひしかは今は是まてと二位の禅尼進
み出安徳天皇八歳の若君を脇にいたき奉り右の手に

宝剣を抜もち海底にとひ入給へは諸卿百官千司平氏
の公達一族も一つ流れに身を沈め水の泡立時の間に消
へて姿もなき跡は寄来る浪も名残なり夫〳〵の百官
此蟹と化生する事いかなれは馴ぬ海路の戦に七手
八脚手たて尽瞋恚強情の恨み消やらす弘誓の船に
ほたされ随縁真如の浪起て八苦の海にしつみ煩悩
の波瀾に漂ひて百卒の魂魄天源にかへることあたは
す終に水底に流転してよる所なきまゝ虫と化し
て此蟹となれるものか今是か姿を見しよりも昔
のあはれに袖ぬれて
　過し世の哀れに沈む君か名をとゝめおきぬる門司（もし）の

　よるへなき身は今蟹と生れ来て浪のあはれにしつむ

落ちぶれた天子をはじめ、月卿雲客（公卿たち）は一艘の船の雨漏りに涙を
流し、帆を漂流の波に任せて豊前国柳ヶ浦に着岸
なさった。しばらくは君主が襟を休められたので、官軍は
一先ず安堵の思いをなした。そのような折に、三月二十二日
頃であろうか、思いがけず範頼・義経が兵船数千隻で押し寄せ、
旗を春風になびかせ、矢を射ることは雨のごとく、
櫓や武器の音は天に響き、鯨波の声は海底を驚かす
ほどであった。されば「兵は凶器、武は逆徳」とはいえども、王土に身を寄せた
武士たちは情け容赦なく、先帝の御座船や天子の龍顔を
はばからず、七重八重に取り囲んだ。官軍は今を限りと防戦
したけれども、天運が衰微していて、たちまち打ち負け、女院が
生け捕りにされてしまったので、今はこれまでと二位の禅尼が進み
出て、安徳天皇八歳の若君を脇に抱き奉り、右の手に

公達一族も一つの流れに身を沈め、水の泡が立つ時の間に消え
去って姿もない跡は、寄せ来る波も名残となった。それぞれの百官が
この蟹と化生することはいかなることか。慣れない海路の戦いに七つ手
八つ脚で手立てを尽くし、瞋恚強情の恨みが消えやらず、弘誓の船に
載せられ、随縁真如の波が起こって八苦の海に沈み、煩悩の
波瀾に漂って、百官の魂魄が天源に帰ることができず、
ついに水底に流転して寄る所がないまま、虫と化して
この蟹となったものであろうか。今この姿を見るよりも昔の
哀れに袖が濡れて
　過ぎし世の哀れに沈む君の名を留め置いた門司の
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　関守よ
　頼る所なき身は今蟹として生まれ来て、波の哀れに沈む

The fallen emperor, along with the court nobles (moon ministers and cloud guests), shed tears in the leaking cabin of a single boat, leaving their sails to the drifting waves and landing at Yanagigaura in Buzen Province. For a while the sovereign rested his collar, so the imperial forces felt some temporary relief. At such a time, around the twenty-second day of the third month, unexpectedly Noriyori and Yoshitsune approached with thousands of warships, unfurling banners in the spring wind, shooting arrows like rain, the sound of oars and weapons reverberating to heaven, and the war cries startling the sea bottom. Though it is said that "weapons are instruments of ill omen, warfare goes against virtue," the warriors who had taken refuge in the imperial land showed no mercy, surrounding the former emperor's imperial vessel and the dragon countenance of the Son of Heaven seven and eight layers deep without reverence. Though the imperial forces fought desperately as their final battle, heaven's mandate had grown weak, and they were immediately defeated. When the empress dowager was taken alive, the Nun of Second Rank stepped forward, thinking "this is the end," embracing the eight-year-old young Emperor Antoku at her side, and grasping the sacred sword in her right hand

Drawing the sacred sword, she leaped into the depths of the sea. The various ministers, hundred officials, thousand functionaries, and the Taira nobles and clansmen all sank into the same current, disappearing in an instant like foam on water, leaving no trace except the waves that continued to wash ashore as remembrance. How is it that each of these hundred officials transformed into these crabs? Unaccustomed to naval warfare, they used every means with "seven hands and eight legs," their vengeful anger and stubborn resentment never fading. Carried on the boat of Buddha's great vow, as the waves of conditional suchness arose, they sank into the sea of eight sufferings, drifting in the turbulent waves of worldly desires. Unable to return their souls to the celestial source, they finally underwent transmigration in the depths of the water. Having no place to rest, they transformed into insects and became these crabs. Seeing their present form brings even more sorrow than the tragedies of old, wetting our sleeves with tears:
　The gatekeeper of Moji (Mojigaseki) who preserved the names
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　of those who sank in past sorrows
　Bodies with nowhere to turn are now reborn as crabs,
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　sinking pathetically in the waves' sorrow
