　蟹譜曰背殻如鬼状者眉目口鼻
　分布明白常宝翫之
　九州海中ニアリ西国ヨリ関東ニハ
　絶テナシ螫左右大小アリ匾長ナル

長門国阿弥陀寺の什物として有所の平家蟹の讃廉
国院大相国義満卿作のよしその真翰のうつしたるを
みれは
嗚呼悲哉三界流転の修羅の業跋提河のなかれに落
せられて苦海の波に沈みかかる蟹の姿と化生せしか憐
へし〳〵過し元暦のいにしへをいまの事よとあやまた
れもろき涙袖にあまるつら〳〵人間盛衰を案するに
たゝこれかんたんの一時のねふりにもあらす平家僅に
二十余年の奢りも盛者必衰の夢の内に来りて終
に東夷の武威にくたかれ寿永秋の一葉に棹
さして西海の波涛にたゝよひ浮《見せ消ち：□｜》#2の流に身を寄し
はいとあはれなりし有さまなり頃しも元暦二年の
春の頃かの官軍所々の軍に打負てつくしをさして

鬼面蟹　タケブンガニ　ヘイケガニ
　島村ガニ　豊前・長門では「キヨツネガニ」と呼ぶ
　蟹譜によれば「背殻が鬼の形のようで、眉・目・口・鼻の
　配置が明瞭で、常に宝として愛玩される」とある。
　九州の海中に生息し、西国より関東には
　全くいない。鋏は左右で大小があり、扁平で長い
　四本の脚がある。その間に極めて短小な四本の脚が
　ついている。蟹類は多種多様といえども、この生物は
　非常に異様な形をしている。乾燥したものは遠方への
　献上品として珍重されるものである。
　『台湾府志』でいう「鬼蟹、形状が
　傀儡のようなもの」とは、まさにこの生物のことである。
　尾張国にもこの蟹が獲れることがあり、「オゾサカニ」
　また「オサダ蟹」とも呼ぶ。これは長田の庄司の亡霊が
　化したものだと言われている。平家蟹とは呼ばず、長州の文字ヶ関海浜にのみ生息すると人々は言う。

国院大相国義満卿の作とされるもので、その真筆を写したものを
見ると次のようにある：
嗚呼悲しいかな、三界流転の修羅の業により、跋提河の流れに落とされて、苦海の波に沈み漂う蟹の姿と化生したことよ、憐れなことだ。過ぎ去った元暦の昔を今のことのように思い違えて、もろい涙が袖に余る。つらつら人間の盛衰を思案するに、ただこれは邯鄲の一時の夢にも及ばない。平家のわずか二十余年の栄華も「盛者必衰」の夢の内に現れて、ついに東夷の武威に打ち砕かれ、寿永の秋、一葉に棹さして西海の波涛に漂い、浮草の流れに身を寄せた、まことに哀れな有様であった。折しも元暦二年の春の頃、かの官軍は各所の戦いに敗れて筑紫を目指し

Demon-face crab　Takebungani　Heikegani (Heike crab)
　Shimamuragani　In Buzen and Nagato, it is called "Kiyotsunegani"
　According to the Crab Chronicle: "The back shell resembles a demon's form, with eyebrows, eyes, mouth, and nose
　clearly distributed, and it is constantly treasured as a precious object."
　It lives in the seas around Kyushu, and is completely
　absent east of the western provinces. The claws are of different sizes on left and right, and it has four flat, elongated
　legs. Between them are four extremely short legs
　attached. Though crab species are numerous and varied, this creature
　has a very strange appearance. Dried specimens are sent to distant places
　as tribute gifts and are considered precious.
　What the Taiwan Prefecture Records call "demon crab, shaped like
　a puppet" refers precisely to this creature.
　This crab is sometimes caught in Owari Province as well, called "Ozosagani"
　or "Osada crab." It is said to be the transformed spirit of the magistrate of Osada.
　It is not called Heike crab there, and people say it exists only on the Mojigaseki seashore of Choshu.

Said to be written by Lord Yoshimitsu, Great Minister of State,
when one looks at a copy of his original calligraphy, it reads:
Alas, how sad! Due to the karma of asura in the cycle of three worlds, cast down into the flow of the Bhadra River, sinking and floating in the waves of the sea of suffering, transformed into the form of crabs - how pitiful! Mistaking the long-past Genryaku era as if it were today, frail tears overflow our sleeves. Reflecting deeply on human rise and fall, this does not even compare to a moment's dream in Handan. The Heike's mere twenty-odd years of luxury appeared within the dream of "the mighty must fall," finally crushed by the martial power of the eastern barbarians. In the autumn of Juei, poling with a single leaf on the waves of the western sea, entrusting themselves to drifting waterweeds - truly a pitiful sight. Just then, in the spring of Genryaku 2, the imperial forces, defeated in battles everywhere, headed toward Tsukushi
