ホウ　二種　
　手触則有青気

【左丁中段】
椿象　臭椿上ニ生ス其
　虫ニ微シク觸レハ青気ア
　リ久シクシテ去ラズ草果
　新ニ剉メル臭気ニ似テコレ
　ヨリモ酷烈ナリ草果集
　解ニ其気如斑螫ト云ハ此
　モノヲ指テ云ナルベシ

【左丁上段】
ホウ（カメムシ）　二種　
　手で触ると青い気（臭気）がある

【左丁中段】
椿象（カメムシ）　臭椿の上に生息する。その
　虫に少し触れると青い気（臭気）が
　あり、長時間消えない。草果を
　新しく砕いた臭気に似ているが、これ
　よりも激烈である。草果集
　解に「其気如斑螫」とあるのは、この
　ものを指して言ったものであろう

【左丁下段】
ホウ（カメムシ）　ホオズキに付く。そのため
　酸醤をホオズキと言う
　と大和本草に書かれている。筑紫
　の方言である。江戸では
　ハンニウ、カウラムシなどと
　呼ぶものである

【左丁左端】
帝京景物略に云う「虫あり、鼈（すっぽん）の身に象の鼻のようで完備している。大きさは朱櫻（さくらんぼ）のようで椿象と言う。臭椿の上に生じ、臭くて触ることができない」とあるのがこれである。その類は非常に多く図のとおりである

【Middle Left Page】
Chinshō (Stink Bug)　Lives on the ailanthus tree. When
　this insect is slightly touched, it emits a blue vapor (odor)
　that does not disappear for a long time. It resembles
　the odor of freshly crushed tsaoko (Amomum tsaoko), but is
　more intense than that. In the Tsaoko Collection
　Commentary, the phrase "its vapor is like spotted stings" likely
　refers to this creature

【Lower Left Page】
Hō (Stink Bug)　Attaches to Chinese lantern plants. Therefore
　calling sour sauce "Chinese lantern"
　is mentioned in the Yamato Honzō. This is
　a dialect from Tsukushi (Kyushu).

【Left Margin】
The Teikei Keibutsu Ryaku states: "There is an insect with a turtle's body and elephant's trunk-like features, complete in form. Large as a cherry, called chinshō. It grows on the ailanthus tree and is so foul-smelling that it cannot be touched." This refers to these creatures. There are very many varieties as shown in the illustrations
