現代語訳

【右丁】
【上段】
障子蜂　障子について羽を鳴らし、ビリビリという音を立てる。羽を取り除いて見ると蟻に似ているが大きく長い。人を刺すことはなく、無害なものである。腰にくびれた部分がある。蜂と名前は付くが蜂ではない。蠅の類である。

虻　異種　三月頃、体に毛があり金色に光る。飛ぶのが早い。毛が銀のように白く光るものもある。嘴は長く蚊のようである。牛馬について血を吸う。また人にもつく。

【下段】
蟷螂　一種　六月下旬に捕獲。四本の足が長く水黽のようで毛がある。髭も前足と共に折りたたむものである。夜間、提灯の光を慕って来る。蚊のようで、また蜘蛛にも似ている。　　桑螵蛸。清明の節句に数多の蟷螂の子が出る状況は、この物によく似ている。

三月、海棠や梨の花について花露を吸うものである。翼をたたむと一枚のようになる。捕らえて耳に近づけると羽で音を出し、篳篥のようである。

Shoji-wasp (Paper screen wasp) - It clings to paper screens and beats its wings, making a buzzing sound. When the wings are removed and examined, it resembles an ant but is large and long. It does not sting people and is harmless. It has a constricted part at the waist. Though called a wasp, it is not actually a wasp but belongs to the fly family.

Horse fly - Different variety - In March, it has hair on its body that shines golden. It flies swiftly. Some have hair that shines white like silver. Its proboscis is long like a mosquito's. It attaches to cattle and horses to suck blood. It also attaches to humans.

【Lower Section】
Praying mantis - One variety - Captured in late June. Its four legs are long like a water strider's and have hair. The antennae can also be folded together with the front legs. At night, it comes drawn to the light of lanterns. It resembles a mosquito and also looks like a spider. Mantis egg case (sōhyōshō). During the Qingming festival, numerous mantis offspring emerge in a manner very similar to this creature.

The voice of the blue fly

In March, it attaches to crabapple and pear blossoms to sip flower dew. When it folds its wings, they appear as one sheet. When captured and brought close to the ear, it makes sounds with its wings like a hichiriki (reed instrument).
