浮塵子（ウンカ）　土佐国ではカツボ、薩摩国ではヌカバイ、雲州・肥前国ではセセリと呼ぶ。
軒下に群れ飛び、上下に飛ぶ様子が人が米を搗く状況のようである。あるいは旋回して飛ぶ様子が石臼に似ている。人はこれで雨晴れを占う。童謡で「カツボの餅つき」というのは、よく人の耳目に入るからである。山城国淀川辺りで曇天であればこの虫が群れ飛び、遠くから見ると煙霧のようである。人が歩いてこれに出会えば目・鼻・口に入り、甚だしく害をなすものである。

金剛鑚　一名「没子」、ブトと呼ぶ。『本草綱目』の蟆子である。形は蜂に似て一分ほどで黒く光がある。昼夜を問わず潜んでいて、人を刺せば痒く腫れ、数日膿瘍をなす毒虫という。

Planthopper (Unka) - Called "Katsubo" in Tosa Province, "Nukabai" in Satsuma Province, and "Seseri" in Izumo and Hizen Provinces.
They swarm and fly under the eaves, moving up and down like people pounding rice. Or they fly in circles resembling a millstone. People use them to predict rain and clear weather. The children's song "Katsubo's rice pounding" refers to this, as it often catches people's attention. In the area around the Yodo River in Yamashiro Province, when the sky is cloudy, these insects swarm and fly, appearing like smoke and mist from a distance. When people encounter them while walking, they enter the eyes, nose, and mouth, causing considerable harm.

Kongō-san - Also called "Botsu-shi," known as "Buto." This is the "Mōshi" from the Honzō Kōmoku (Compendium of Materia Medica). Its form resembles a bee, about one bu in size, black with a shine. It lurks day and night, and when it stings people, it causes itchy swelling and forms pustules lasting several days - it is called a poisonous insect.
