『多識編』芳草類に言う：
蘭草【和名：ふちば（藤袴）、別名：かま】【異名】水香【本草綱目】、香草【本草綱目】、香水蘭【開宝本草】
女蘭【本草綱目】、燕尾香【開宝本草】、大沢蘭【炮灸論】
蘭沢草【弘景】、煎沢草【唐本草】
雀頭草【本草綱目】、都梁香【李当之】
孩児菊【本草綱目】、千金草
『大和本草』に言う：
真蘭 和名はふじばかま。またあららぎとも言う。古歌に「蘭」と詠み、『八雲抄』にも蘭を「ふじばかま」「らん」と言うと書いてある。これが真蘭である。古歌には多くふじばかまを詠んでいる。国信の歌に：
「秋の野にむらむら立つ蘭（ふじばかま）紫深く誰が染めけん」
詩経や楚辞などに詠まれた蘭がこれである。上代は沈香・檀香などの諸香木がまだ中国から来ていなかったので、蘭を非常に賞美した。今の蘭と言うものは大葉の麦門冬のようで花の香りがよいものである。幽蘭と言うが、上代の真蘭ではない。
『和名類聚抄』に言う：
蘭 『兼名苑』に言う蘭【ふじばかま】一名蕙
闌・恵の二音。『和名本草』に言う：布知波賀万
『新撰万葉集』に別に藤袴の二字を用いる

The "Yamato Honzo" states:
True orchid The Japanese name is fujibakama. It is also called araragi. In ancient poetry it was called "ran," and the "Yakumo-sho" also writes that orchid is called "fujibakama" or "ran." This is the true orchid. In ancient poetry, fujibakama was frequently composed about. In Kunishin's poem:
"In the autumn field, clustering orchids (fujibakama) stand - who dyed them such a deep purple?"
This is the orchid sung about in the Book of Songs and Songs of Chu. In ancient times, various aromatic woods like agarwood and sandalwood had not yet arrived from China, so orchid was greatly prized. What we now call orchid is like large-leafed ophiopogon with fragrant flowers. It is called "quiet orchid," but it is not the true orchid of ancient times.
The "Wamyo Ruiju-sho" states:
Orchid The "Kenmyo-en" says orchid [fujibakama] is also called hui
The two pronunciations lan and hui. The "Wamyo Honzo" says: Fuchihabakama
The "Shinsen Manyo-shu" separately uses the two characters for fujibakama
