英語訳
## Sankakui (三稜草 / Three-edged Bulrush / *Sparganium* or *Scirpus* species)
*(Copied on the 10th day of the month of Isoku [7th lunar month] in the year Kinoto-Tori [1765 or 1825]. Seal: "Medicinal Herb")*
---
**From *Yamato Honzō* (Great Japanese Materia Medica):**
"Sanryō (三稜): The leaves have three edges (ridges), and flowers appear at the tips of the stems, resembling *kōbushi* (香附子, *Cyperus rotundus*). It grows to four or five shaku in height, like an arrow shaft. For this reason, in Kawachi Province it is also called 'Yagara' (arrow shaft). It is an aquatic plant."
---
**From *Tashikiden* (多識編), section on Aromatic Herbs:**
Sanryō — Japanese name: *Suge* (sedge); (upon reflection: *Maru-suge*)
Alternative names: *Kyō-sanryō* [from *Kaiho Honzō*], *Kusa-sanryō* [same source], *Keisō-sanryō* (鶏爪三稜, "chicken-claw three-edge") [same source], *Ishi-sanryō* (石三稜), *Kuro-sanryō* (黒三稜)
(The author notes: "This is what is referred to as *Kusa-sanryō*.")
---
**From *Wamyō Ruijushō* (和名類聚抄, Japanese Names Classified and Annotated):**
Three-edged grass (*shikuri* / *mikuri*)
As cited in the *Honzō*: "Sanryō-sō — the reading of 稜 is [*ro-tō no han*: a fanqie spelling yielding 'ryō']; the Japanese name is *mikuri*."
