Item: Concerning the matter of the successors to the Five Houses. As noted above, numerous written reports were submitted. At that time, all those who had submitted their names shared the same intention of wishing for gradual rotation of appointments among the Five Houses. Therefore, so that there would be no disorder for years to come regardless of who was appointed as successor, and so that all matters would be handled in harmony, a settlement document (okibumi) was established based on prior precedent, read aloud to all parties, and after each had acknowledged and understood its contents, the matter was reported to the Imperial Liaison (Gidensō). Among those involved, the persons of the said Five Houses were ordered to succeed to their positions in the second month of Kyōhō 6 (1721).
