Item: Record of [the document] submitted by the *ujibito* 【Interlinear note: *This was submitted together with a genealogy when an imperial command was issued that the genealogy should again be presented for imperial inspection.*】
Kamo *ujibito*, Hirokyū — submitted with all sincerity and reverence
Item: As we have repeatedly stated, there are numerous examples throughout history, both ancient and recent, of *ujibito* being appointed to the position of *shashi*, as can be seen in the genealogies. This genealogy has been appended to the comprehensive genealogy (*sō-keizu*) of the *Shimogamo* shrine household, compiled into a single volume and established as a mirror of guidance (*kikagami*) for all generations to come. On this basis, [the *ujibito*'s case] is set out with particular care and thoroughness within the genealogy of this shrine's *shashi*. Now that the old records have been subjected to close examination and deliberation, to allow the long-standing shrine precedents to be severed, and to bring about the complete ruin of the *ujibito*, is a matter of the deepest sorrow. Regarding the genealogy submitted by the *shashi* recently at the residence of His Highness (or: the former [regent's] palace?), since it is a private record (*shiki*) for the Mori household alone, we find it difficult to understand how it could properly be presented as the comprehensive genealogy (*sō-keizu*).
