宣家々ニ頂戴仕置候事偏社職為可被相続御座

社司は依職之規模而昇殿仕候もの多御座候又社司

現代語訳
（前頁より続き）宣旨を各家々でいただき保持しておりますことは、ひとえに社職を継承するためでございます。
一、昇殿のこと
社司は職の規模に応じて昇殿する者が多くございます。また社司の兄弟で職を持たない者も昇殿することがございます。これはすなわち、氏人が昇殿する慣例によるものでございます。再三申し上げましたように、職を持たない者はみな氏人でございます。また社司の兄弟であっても、その志のない者は今もって昇殿いたしておりません。

一、社司方より、女院御所様へ上ることにより、女院様の御文を添えて、天子（天皇）に御覧いただいた写し。

口上として、鴨長明は祢宜職を望んだけれども、氏人であるがゆえに望みがかなわなかったため、このように詠んだと申し上げたということである。

One item: Regarding the matter of ascending to the inner sanctuary (Shōden)
There are many Shasha who ascend to the inner sanctuary in accordance with the scale of their positions. Furthermore, brothers of Shasha who hold no position also ascend to the inner sanctuary. This is precisely the customary practice by which Ujibito ascend to the inner sanctuary. As has been stated repeatedly, those who hold no shrine position are all Ujibito. Moreover, even among the brothers of Shasha, those who have no such aspiration do not ascend to the inner sanctuary even to this day.
The above concludes [this section].
One item: As [a document was] sent up to the Lady of the In'no Gosho [Imperial Consort's Residence] from the Shasha side, [a petition] was submitted with a letter from the Lady of the In, and a copy of [what was] presented to the Emperor is as follows:
"Not even knowing whether I should be called a Negi [shrine priest],
how can I serve the mighty gods?" Kamo no Chōmei
(Written upon seeing the hollyhock [Aoi], having withdrawn from shrine society as his wishes had not been fulfilled, and living in seclusion)

[The oral explanation states:] It was submitted [to the Emperor] that Kamo no Chōmei had desired the position of Negi, but because he was merely an Ujibito, his wish could not be fulfilled, and thus he composed this poem.
